Kaiju No 8 Has Topped 4 Million Total Copies Sold in Record Time

Kaiju No. 8, the latest monster manga, has become the fastest Shonen Jump + manga to hit over 4 million copies in circulation, both online and offline. 

Kafka seems to be having trouble transforming into a Kaiju, and last we saw that almost cost him his life. Luckily for him, Defence Force office Kikoru has just arrived on the scene. 

Despite her young age, we know exactly how powerful she really is and I can’t wait to see how she handles this crazy monster in the latest issue. 

On the 3rd of September, Shueisha announced that the manga Kaiju No. Eight had crossed 4 million copies on the same day as their latest issue’s release.

The manga only had 3 million copies sold back in July. Surprisingly, in a matter of a few months, the manga has seen another million sales, which is simply astonishing.

If we’re lucky we might get to see it hit another major milestone by the end of the year. 

On top of this, Shueisha has released a new promotional video to celebrate the manga’s fourth volume, which was released on the same day as it hit this milestone. 

The promotional video takes us through the major scenes that take place in the latest issue. This includes Kafka’s latest transformation into his crazy Kaiju form. After watching this, I can already see the potential for an anime adaptation, maybe very soon. 

It’s impressive that Kaiju No 8 has hit such a massive milestone so soon, and I can’t wait to see it break through many more.

Kaiju No. 8 or Monster #8 is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It has been serialized for free on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ from July 2020.

In Japan, creatures are known as kaiju frequently attack the nation with the Japanese Defense Force in charge of dealing with and killing them.

Childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro vow to become members of the Defense Force after a kaiju destroys their home. Mina becomes a famous commander of the Force while Kafka fails the exam multiple times and becomes a monster sweeper, those in charge of cleaning up a monster’s dead body.

One day a small talking kaiju enters his body through his mouth and he can now turn into a Kaiju himself. This is dubbed “Kaiju No. 8” by the Defense Force.
