Kaiju No. 8 Confirms Season 2 With New Trailer, Reveals Other Projects

One of the most celebrated anime series of 2024, Kaiju No. 8, based on the science fiction manga by Naoya Matsumoto, is coming back soon.

The first teaser for Kaiju No. 8’s highly awaited second season has been revealed, which has gotten fans excited. The anime’s first season, which had a successful run on Crunchyroll, has paved the way for an even more thrilling second season, which was almost immediately renewed and confirmed.

Kaiju No. 8 Release Window

According to Crunchyroll, the news was released on August 5, the same day the Japanese anime industry celebrates “Kaiju,” or the “No. 8” day and Kafka’s birthday. In June, the popular anime streaming service declared that Kaiju No. 8 season 2 will be simulcast immediately following its broadcast in Japan.

It is officially confirmed that Kaiju No. 8’s second season will air in 2025. Production I.G. verified the information on its official Twitter account. The announcement included a whole new look at the show’s trailer with a VHS filter.

While the series has yet to announce a specific release date, the anticipation for Kaiju No. 8 season 2 is palpable. It is expected to air after the debut of the season one compilation movie and a special original episode, all of which are set for a 2025 release.

New Trailer Revealed

The new trailer offers an intriguing glimpse of what’s to come. The Anti-Kaiju Defense Force springs into action as a horde of kaiju wreaks havoc in Tokyo in these thrilling, action-packed scenes. The video, intentionally leaving much to the viewer’s imagination, is a unique blend of new and old, designed to resemble vintage VHS movies from the Y2K era, with snippets of season one seamlessly woven in.

There won’t be too long of a waiting time for fans, as the new season is scheduled for release in 2025 as confirmed by Crunchyroll earlier.

Recap of Season 1

Season 1, with its three captivating arcs spanning 39 chapters, left us at a cliffhanger where Kafka Hibino is arrested after the discovery of the fact that he can also transfer into a Kaiju. Kafka is held in a military prison, awaiting a private audience with higher-ups, including Isao Shinomiya, the Director General of the Defense Forces. Their tense discussion reveals some shared ideas despite Kafka’s ability to become a monster, setting the stage for an intense and intriguing Season 2.

Season 2 of Kaiju No. 8 Promises to be a journey of character growth and revelations. As we delve into chapters 40 to 68, set to cover two arcs, the Kaiju Weapon Arc that the current Captured Arc will lead to and then the Compatible User Arc. Kafka joins the Defense Force to battle against Kaiju No. 9, and we witness Kafka’s transformation. Director General Isao’s evolution is equally compelling, as he dons special armor built from a kaiju to face the Kaiju No. 9.

Other Projects in the Works

However, the trailer also brought some exciting new updates. A “season 1 compilation” film is in the works, designed to highlight key moments from the first season, ensuring that both new viewers and returning fans are ready for the second season. If the series follows the Demon Slayer formula, the compilation film will be screened in theaters ahead of new seasons, and it’s expected that Kaiju No. 8 will follow suit.

A special original episode titled Hoshina’s Day Off is also in production. This episode will shine a spotlight on Hoshina, a fan-favorite character who is the vice-captain of the Third Division and a skilled swordsman. Hoshina’s popularity even led to a spin-off manga series, Kaiju No. 8 B-Side.
