#12 imitates Hoshina’s sword style in chapter 90 of Kaiju No. 8, titled “One Blade, True Conviction.”

Things were going well for Hoshina till the last few pages of the chapter. He managed to shock #12 with his regress blows and slashes. Hoshina cut almost all parts of #12 just to find his core.

However, by the end of the chapter, it was all for nothing as #12 even started imitating his sword style, throwing Hoshina completely off. Now, there is nothing new left for Hoshina to try on this monster.

Okonogi believes that Hoshina will win the battles as he is the strongest close-quarter combatant in the entire defense force. Hoshina’s attack successfully slashes #12’s arm.

Even after this, Hoshina refuses to slow down and launches another attack that penetrates #12’s chest. However, he finds out that #12’s core isn’t present there.  

Hoshina doesn’t let that bother him and decides to continue slicing until he reaches the core. He slices #12’s head but doesn’t find the core there. He continues attacking all parts of #12 and finally finds the core in its neck.

Hoshina combines his sneak attack technique and blade-cutting technique. He slowly approaches victory with continuous blows and is about to launch one of his final attacks when #12 takes a stance similar to Hoshina, shocking the latter.

Hoshina is shocked at first but gets serious and moves ahead with his attack. However, #10 tells him to defend as #12 throws a big, heavy, and destructive blow at him with its own sword. Thus, imitating even his sword.

Kaiju No. 8 or Monster #8 is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It has been serialized for free on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ from July 2020.

In Japan, creatures are known as kaiju frequently attack the nation with the Japanese Defense Force in charge of dealing with and killing them.

Childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro vow to become members of the Defense Force after a kaiju destroys their home. Mina becomes a famous commander of the Force while Kafka fails the exam multiple times and becomes a monster sweeper, those in charge of cleaning up a monster’s dead body.
