If you’re a rom-com-loving otaku, there’s no way you’ve escaped Kaguya-sama. While it has always been met with mixed reviews, it is a story we love and never want to end.
All the credit for making it so wholesome, engaging, and ultra-romantic goes to its author, Aka Akasaka. The man came up with many new and exciting storylines which were never a bore (mostly).
Even though the story might have fallen out a few times, the art never did. That’s the brilliance of Akasaka’s art, which we won’t be getting more of from now.
As the ‘Kaguya-sama: Love is War’ manga ended this month, Aka Akasaka announced his retirement as a manga artist.
At the end of the series, “Kaguya-sama wants to tell you.”

Before you jump to any conclusions, Akasaka made it very clear that he is leaving manga drawing to focus on writing instead. Kaguya-sama was the last of his work as an artist, and Akasaka hopes to pursue painting as a recreational hobby.
Akasaka is currently working on another manga, ‘Oshi no Ko,’ where he is in charge of the writing while Mengo Yokoyari is doing the illustrations. The author also shared how he wants to produce more original work and concentrate on creating and writing stories.
He also mentions how grateful Akasaka is to all those who read and loved Kaguya-sama. The manga went on for almost seven and a half years, and Akasaka is thankful to everyone who supported his work.
Adding to this, Kaguya-sama’s final chapter was a tear-jerker for all fans as our favorite characters bid farewell to Shuchi’in Academy. Their graduation was filled with heavy emotions and happy yet sentimental goodbyes.
As we all know, Shirogane dropped out of the academy as he got admission into Stanford University. The president wanted to surprise everyone, especially his girlfriend Kaguya, and returned to Japan during the graduation.
Shirogane’s father encouraged him to attend the graduation ceremony instead of waiting outside. What the president didn’t know was that Kaguya and the others had planned a big surprise for him.
Kaguya and Shirogane reminisced about all those times they spent at the academy and in the student council room, a place that will always be special to them.
Even though the manga is over, we still have the anime and live-action installments left, and we can relive all those scenes again through them.
Moreover, Akasaka didn’t forget to give a fun ending to Kaguya-sama. The finale mentioned that the couple will now start the battle of who will propose for marriage first, but that’s a story for another time.
