Everything to Know about ‘Jurassic World 3: Dominion’

Jurassic World: Dominion, the long-awaited sequel to 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is slated to come out next year. Though its release is quite some time away, here’s everything to know about the upcoming follow-up in the renowned Dino-franchise.

After its initial 2021 release date had to be pushed back due to the COVID pandemic, the movie is set to premiere theatrically on June 10, 2022. Filming wrapped up in November of last year and it is now in post-production, although director Colin Trevorrow recently revealed that the final stage is almost complete as well

He also revealed in a different interview that the first official trailer should be arriving soon and is planned to have a fun launch. However, an exclusive preview will be shown with the IMAX screenings of Universal’s other hit franchise film, F9, which releases later this month on the 25th.

Furthermore, the studio also unveiled the official poster yesterday, which sees a mosquito seemingly sucking blood from the thick skin of a dinosaur. The tagline reads, “It all started here,” hinting at the franchise’s dinosaur origins with the extraction of their DNA from mosquitoes preserved in amber.

Dominion was planned as early as 2014 as a part of the Jurassic World trilogy. Trevorrow returned to direct it while Steven Spielberg serves as the executive producer, similar to the previous films.

An official plot is yet to be revealed, but according to Trevorrow, the movie will take place four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom, which should set its timeline in 2022, when it is supposed to release. Moreover, the movie will follow two sets of characters whose stories will run parallel to each other.

This comes after the director revealed last year that the original cast from Jurassic Park would be returning in their former roles alongside Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearling. Fans were earlier left disappointed by Jeff Goldblum’s brief appearance in Fallen Kingdom, but the news of the trio of Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm coming back as part of the main cast does seem exciting.

Considering the ongoing rumors about the film being the last in the franchise, bringing everyone together as a last farewell would make sense. It also confirms that the separate plotlines will see the stories of both groups and how it ends collectively for them when they converge.

Besides the main cast, Dominion has also roped in new actors like Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise, and Dimitri Thivaios.

An interesting aspect of the upcoming movie, though, is that it will not be featuring any more hybrid dinosaurs and will take a more focused approach on the species that actually existed at one point. Based on this, it seems that Jurassic World’s last hurrah might be more about paying homage to its roots and concluding things on hopefully a safer and more sentimental note.
