Chapter 159 starts with Higuruma investigating a complicated case where a man is found guilty of murdering a lady and her mother. The police found a stained blood knife from his room, which is obviously a firm evidence against him.
The accused keeps denying all the charges against him, saying that he found the knife somewhere and he picked it up to hand it to the police later.
Any ordinary man would have considered them lies without giving a second thought, but not defense lawyer Higuruma, who trusts those shaky words.
The chapter reveals that it’s Higuruma’s habit of taking impossible cases to keep things interesting. He isn’t motivated by superficial things like money and fame.
Rather, he prefers to do his job passionately without expecting any reward.
