Judgment 2 Might Be Set in Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s Yokohama

Judgment, which first dropped worldwide in June 2019, recently received a release for next-gen consoles that brought faster load times, refined visuals, and silky smooth 60fps. And now, news has surfaced that Sega might be working on a sequel to the Yakuza spin-off.

According to prominent Yakuza fan site The Tojo Dojo, a source, who was vetted with due research, has revealed that the sequel is currently under development. The game reportedly has two working titles in play –  ‘Lost Judgment’ and ‘Judgment: Seize The Truth’ – which sounds accurate as Sega of Japan recently trademarked ‘Lost Judgment’. However, it’s important to note that developers usually trademark a bunch of different names in the development cycle and then settle on one later on. So, the final name could be something totally different.

As of now, ‘Lost Judgment’ is set to put Detective Takayuki Yagami and his sidekick Kaito in a storyline that will be much darker than those of the usual Yakuza games. The title will be produced by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.

Furthermore, The Tojo Dojo has also provided what apparently are screenshots from the sequel. As you’ll see in the tweet below, what’s most interesting is that the locations  in Judgment 2 look very similar to those of Yokohama, which is the city in Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

Setting up Judgment 2 in Yokohama would make sense as it would save time on developing a whole new open-world from scratch. And since Judgment was based in Kamurocho, the former mainstay location of the Yakuza series, basing the game’s sequel in another Yakuza town makes perfect sense.

Sega has not confirmed any of the aforementioned theories or developments but Ryu Ga Gotoku’s official website is counting down to ‘Judgment Day’ which is on May 7 at 7 AM PST. So, we might just get the sequel announcement sooner than expected.
