Jordan Peele is set to return this summer with his highly anticipated third film, Nope, after the success of his previous two horror releases, Get Out and Us.
Peele is known for his masterfully crafted films; Get Out and Us are standouts of the genre and Get Out earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
With Nope, Peele will reunite with Get Out’s lead actor, Daniel Kaluuya along with Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun.
It has been hard to get a feel for the plot of Nope in the early teasers, but that is very typical of Peele’s style. Through various teasers and posters, more clues about the story have been deciphered over time.
Many of the film’s secrets, however, remain tightly guarded. The story of Nope follows Kaluuya and Palmer’s characters as they look for evidence of bizarre alien activity in their town.
The latest promotional efforts for Nope have hinted at Yeun’s cowboy-like character and provided more insight into the mysteries the characters might have at hand to unfold.
One of these is jupitersclaim.com, which appears to be a promotional site for Jupiter’s Claim, one of Nope’s key locations. At a first glance, the website looks like a standard website for a Wild West-themed tourist attraction. A dark mode, however, transforms both the images and text into something eerie. A flash-style interactive game offers users the opportunity to win “jangle,” the fake currency they use when visiting the attraction.
The character that Yeun portrays was first revealed to be called Ricky “Jupe” Park, but not much else was confirmed. It is revealed on the Jupiter’s Claim website, however, that the character is a former child actor and reality TV star.
The red sequined jacket worn by Yeun in Nope’s Dolby poster has been used as the movie’s main promotional symbol. Nope has maintained a considerable amount of mystery regarding Jupe’s role in the film’s extraterrestrial events, so all signs seem to point to Yeun’s significance.
This new interactive site certainly offers some hints and clues as to how the events of Nope might play out, but it certainly leaves more questions than answers.
Fans of Peele’s latest horror flick will probably enjoy sifting through the website, looking for hints to the film’s plot prior to its release.
The mysteries of the movie will finally unfold when the movie hits theaters on July 22, 2022.
