Jordan Peele Opens up about Potential Get Out Sequel

Beginning as one half of the comedy duo Key and Peele, Jordan Peele has since turned to directing gripping horror movies.

Get Out, Peele’s directorial debut, starred Daniel Kaluuya, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford, and Allison Williams.

The director continued to establish himself as a craftsman in the horror genre with Us, starring Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Moss, and Winston Duke.

Get Out follows a Black man (Kaluuya) who visits his white girlfriend’s (Williams) parents, played by Keener and Whitford.

The man’s presence ends up having a much more sinister purpose than he could have ever imagined, as things slowly begin to unravel shortly after he arrives.

With a budget of $4.5 million, Blumhouse’s Get Out earned $255 million worldwide. The film has since become a modern classic.

Despite frequent speculation about a sequel, Peele has focused on new projects instead, like Us and Nope, since its release.

In an interview with AP, Peele discusses the possibility of a Get Out 2.

“I do get asked that a lot,” Peele admits before adding, “Never say never. There’s certainly a lot to talk about left.” Peele didn’t elaborate on the idea further, but his comments are in line with the film’s ending, which leaves many questions unanswered.

Peele has not yet announced his next project, but he will re-team with his Key and Peele partner for Henry Selick’s stop-motion animation film, Wendell and Wild.

Although Peele could potentially turn his attention to a Get Out sequel, it seems more likely that he will stick with his original ideas for now. Even though Peele will never reject the idea outright, it sounds like he would need a very good reason to return to that universe for Get Out 2.

Whenever a film is a big hit, a sequel is always difficult to justify, as there’s always the fear of sullying the first film.

There are, however, times when sequels can supersede the prequel. However, there is always a risk, especially if done for the wrong reasons or as a foregone conclusion due to the success of the first.

Nonetheless, Peele can continue to peel back the layers of the horrifying concept he introduced in Get Out 2 if he wanted.

If the idea was fleshed out enough, that could make for a good follow-up, and as Peele himself said, it’s not impossible. Whether there is more to be told in this story remains to be seen.
