Three years ago, after the release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, which adapted the fifth part of the manga, there were rumors floating about on Reddit and Youtube that the sixth part, Stone Ocean was going to be skipped in favor of directly animating part 7 – Steel Ball Run. Fortunately, these rumors were false.
The Stone Ocean anime was never canceled. David Production adapted the sixth part of Araki’s manga into season 5. The first 12 episodes of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean were released on December 1, 2021, the next 12 on September 1, and the final 14 on December 1, 2022.
Although Netflix really tested the fans’ patience with its delayed release schedule, all 38 episodes of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean anime are available to stream on Netflix worldwide.
Is the Stone Ocean anime over?
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean finished airing on December 1, 2022. There are a total of 38 episodes in season 5 that adapt the entirety of part 6 of the manga called Stone Ocean.
The Stone Ocean manga contains 158 chapters, following Golden Wind or Vento Aureo.
Stone Ocean revolves around the adventures of Jolyne Kujo, Jotaro’s estranged daughter. It features most of the series’ favorite characters like Dio Brando, Pucci, Weather Report, Costello, Foo Fighters, and Thunder McQueen.
The ending of Stone Ocean is one of the most anticipated scenes in JoJo history, and watching it animated has fans satisfied and disappointed in equal measure.
Either way, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean marks the end of an era.
Is Stone Ocean the final arc?
Stone Ocean is not the final arc of the manga but it is the end of the original JoJo timeline.
Part 7, Steel Ball Run (SBR), part 8, JoJolion, and part 9, tentatively named JoJolands, all occur in an alternate universe and are sometimes referred to as spin-offs.
Stone Ocean is the last part set in the same universe as the 5 parts before it.
Will there be a season 6 of JoJo?
There have been no announcements indicating that we will get a JoJo season 6. Season 6 would adapt part 7 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Steel Ball Run, following the story of Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli competing in the Steel Ball Run race.
The likelihood of a season 6 is small, given the fact that David Production already has upcoming shows like Urusei Yatsura and Undead Unluck set to release in 2023.
But the studio took its own sweet time between season 3: Diamond is Unbreakable, season 4: Golden Wind, and season 5: Stone Ocean. Besides, Steel Ball Run is debatably the fandom’s favorite part, so a season 6 is not entirely out of question. We’ll have to wait until next year or so to know for sure.
Is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime canceled?
According to Netflix Anime’s Fukabolix Podcase in November 2022, the team of David Production, the JoJo anime’s studio, partially confirmed that the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime will end with season 5, or part 6, Stone Ocean.
The series director, Kenichi Suzuki, commented that the production company had discussed early on that they would adapt up to season 6 if the first few seasons became popular.
Fairouz Ai, the voice actress of Jolyne Kujo, agreed, saying that it would be the best choice, since “Stone Ocean depicts the conclusion to the Joestars and Dio’s shared destiny.”
Like I mentioned, part 7 and 8 take place in a new universe. Part 9 of the manga is yet to be written; even if David Production do decide to continue with the anime, given their previous adaptation and release record, they will end up having to wait for Araki to finish writing part 9.
Part 7, SBR, is also longer than the earlier parts, and animating it would probably take forever. With the hype around Undead Unluck, David Production might want to take a break from JoJo once and for all.
Also, given the popularity of Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe, which are original video animations, David Production might prefer to animate these short stories rather than focus on SBR.
The Rohan stories are a spin-off from part 4, Diamond is Unbreakable. The manga one-shots are still being written. The first one came out in 1997 – this should tell you how popular they are.
While the JoJo anime hasn’t explicitly been canceled or announced as over, it is unlikely that we’ll be seeing more content from David Production aside from the Rohan Kishibe stories.
