Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga that never ceases to amaze me, even during its least exciting arcs or panels. The reality in this fictional story surpasses any other and don’t even get me started on the human decency and empathy shown by some of the characters.
Since Yuji is our typical self-sacrificial shonen protagonist, some people have to keep an eye out to prevent him from doing anything reckless. Mostly there’s Megumi or Nobara to protect our wholesome ball of sunshine, but this time he was all by himself.
That just means Yuji will very wisely (sarcasm intended) drop himself into the hands of death before thinking of other reasonable options.
Although he didn’t have his friends this time, Higuruma saved Yuji after seeing his innocence behind what happened in Shibuya in an unexpected turn of events.
Jujutsu Kaisen manga chapter 166 has revealed that Hiromi Higuruma has finally joined forces with Itadori and is willing to help him and the others out.
Ever since Sukuna’s bloody massacre in Shibuya took place, Yuji has been carrying the guilt and responsibility of killing several people on his shoulders.
Many tried convincing Yuji that it wasn’t his fault, but he wouldn’t budge from his decision and kept burdening himself with it every day.
In his second trial against Higuruma’s cursed technique, the Judgeman presents the Shibuya massacre case, and without a second thought, Yuji admits to it. This lands him a death penalty which Higuruma is hesitant about as the attorney knew it wasn’t Yuji’s fault.
The evidence Higuruma had proved that Sukuna made the killings against Yuji’s will as the demon forcefully took control of Yuji’s body.
Higuruma was left bewildered as to why Yuji would confess to such a crime when he could’ve gotten away with it by putting it on Sukuna.
While Higuruma was distracted by his puzzling thoughts, Yuji took advantage of the situation and gained the upper hand. The fight ended seconds after that when Higuruma declared that he’d give Yuji his 100 points.
I see this as an absolute win for our protagonists as they now have one more strong sorcerer on their side. Of course, Higuruma is just a new sorcerer without much experience, but his cursed technique rivals some of the strongest in the manga.
With him, Yuji and the others might have a better chance at ending the Culling Game and getting some confessions from Kenjaku.
Knowing Gege-sensei, I’m not sure how long Higuruma will stay alive, but I’m hoping we don’t get the same betrayal we got with Junpei :’).
