Jimmy Fallon apologized and stated his regret to the employees of The Tonight Show in the wake of a report alleging that he created a hostile work environment.
The versatile entertainer is widely recognized as a former Saturday Night Live performer and the present host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a role he has occupied since 2014. Earlier today, a shocking report emerged in which former and current staff members on The Tonight Show accused Fallon of cultivating a toxic workplace, characterizing the host’s “tantrums” and the presence of “crying rooms” on the premises.
Following the explosive Jimmy Fallon report, a subsequent article from Rolling Stone reveals that the host has promptly expressed his regret to The Tonight Show personnel via Zoom.
Two staff members who attended the meeting mentioned that Fallon apologized and stated that he had no intention of “generating that kind of environment for the show.” Fallon also recognized the frequent showrunner changes and highlighted that current showrunner Chris Miller is “a superb leader.” The staff members also confirm that Fallon’s apology “seemed very sincere.” Read what Fallon said below, as per the two staff members:
It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad. Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends… I feel so bad I can’t even tell you. I want the show to be fun, [it] should be inclusive to everybody. It should be the best show.
The initial Rolling Stone report was extensive and thorough, outlining the multitude of ways in which Fallon purportedly created a hostile work environment on The Tonight Show. Staff members distinguished between what are termed as “good Jimmy days,” in which the star’s charm was evident, and “bad Jimmy days,” in which the host displayed “tantrums” of rage and was frequently perplexed, prompting one employee to suspect he may have been intoxicated.
Several staff members claim that these experiences adversely affected their mental well-being. It was also a prevalent practice for staff members to utilize dressing rooms as “crying rooms.”
The allegations are startling, to put it mildly, considering the host’s quite polite demeanor onscreen. In fact, these charges are reminiscent of the hostile workplace charges leveled against Ellen DeGeneres in 2020 which effectively terminated her show.
The outcome of these allegations against Fallon is uncertain, though his apology was prompt and appears to have been genuine. Many of these allegations also pertain to incidents that transpired several years ago under a succession of former showrunners, while current showrunner Chris Miller is praised for enhancing the culture of The Tonight Show.
