Jessica Alba is far from finished with showbiz. After a series of flops, three children, and a billion-dollar beauty company, this headstrong Californian beauty is now set to hit the small screen with Netflix’s latest thriller Trigger Warning.
Alba will not only headline the film; she will also executive produce it. It may be recalled that Alba has previously starred in and executive produced the Spectrum Original – LA’s Finest. Alba’s career peaks include the Fantastic Four films and the Sin City movies.
Trigger Warning is the story of a traumatized veteran (Alba) who, after inheriting her grandfather’s bar, learns the truth behind his untimely death. She is then faced with a moral dilemma due to unearthing this forbidden knowledge.
Mouly Surya, whose Marina The Murderer In Four Acts was the Indonesian Oscar nomination of its time, will be directing this film. Meanwhile, its script has been penned by Josh Olson, another Oscar nominee for his 2005 graphic novel adaptation A History Of Violence.
Olson partnered with John Brancato, whose credits include Terminator Salvation and the 2009 Bruce Willis sci-fi film Surrogates. Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyck and Erica Lee are producing this shindig with Alba, and Surya repped by the CAA.
For its part, Netflix has been doing well with its list of Hollywood stars on the platform. After this year’s Chris Hemsworth-starrer Extraction broke all records to become the most-watched movie on Netflix ever, they have recently acquired the Dwayne Johnson-Emily Blunt superhero film Ball and Chain.
As for Alba, we hope the brilliant actress realizes her true potential and finally gets a meaty role in her Netflix endeavor. It has long been known that Hollywood’s existing biases have often worked against its actors of color.
Alba herself has said so multiple times that casting directors often end up putting her in the ‘exotic’ basket that fails to categorize her as white or black.
Not only is it embarrassing for a senior star such as Alba, it also denies her meaningful roles in leading Hollywood productions. Here’s hoping that Netflix will once again prove its commitment to equality in showbiz.
