Jerry Seinfeld Would ‘Fix’ His Sitcom If He Had A Time Machine

The iconic 90s show Seinfeld paved the way for future comedies. While it remains a legendary American sitcom, there certainly are a few things in the show that will be deemed problematic in today’s time.

Not that it wasn’t before, but 2021 indeed has increased the number of people being vocal about dissent.

Co-created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, Seinfeld shared a few things he would want to fix in the show. He disagrees with the aspect of regretting any work and overthinking about the past.

As the show is made and reflects the 90s society, some things haven’t gone down too well with the new generation discovering it. (As is the case with the Friends sitcom, though it also has a cult following.)

According to Deadline, the comedian spoke at the press event of the iconic sitcom launching on Netflix, reflecting on some things in the past.

There’s a number of them that I would love to have a crack at, but I don’t really believe, philosophically, in changing or even thinking about the past. My philosophy of life is that [it] happened the way it happened, and we’re going to go from here. And that’s the best way to … live.

I think regret is a philosophical position that I disagree with. It kind of assumes you could have changed the past, so I wouldn’t even think of that. But if you forced me or you gave me a time machine, yeah, there’s a few — I would fix some things.

The comedian didn’t divulge any more details, but honestly, he didn’t need to. The show did have episodes tackling racism and sexism, but it tackled it the way old comedy shows usually did – by making a joke out of everything.

The seriousness of certain instances was thrown out of the park, reducing them to just a punchline.

One example is The Puerto Rican Day episode, which led to people slamming NBC over its portrayal of Puerto Rico as a commonplace of riots and vandalism and using the flag as a prop.

Meanwhile, all 180 episodes of the legendary sitcom Seinfeld are now available to stream on Netflix.
