Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she was turned down for a part in Twilight when she auditioned for a role.
The actress, who later won an Oscar, was not well-known when she auditioned for the 2008 movie based on the popular vampire books. She had only done some guest roles on TV shows like Monk, Cold Case, and Medium before her breakthrough in Winter’s Bone.
Speaking on The Rewatchables podcast, Lawrence reflected on her experience of being a “run-of-the-mill actor” in her early career and how it affected her chances of getting into Twilight. However, she has no hard feelings about missing out on the role and how things have worked out for her since then.
I auditioned for Twilight [and] they turned me down immediately. [Laughs] I didn’t even get a callback. But my life would’ve been totally different. I got Hunger Games; I think, like, a year later. When you audition when you’re a run-of-the-mill actor… you just get five pages, and they’re like, ‘Act monkey.’ When it came out, I was like, ‘Hot damn.’
The story of Lawrence’s audition for Twilight shows how actors go through various phases in Hollywood. Lawrence did not have a sudden or spectacular rise to fame.
Instead, she faced some setbacks and rejections, such as losing the roles of Bella Swan and Alice. She later achieved great success in the industry but also went through a period of decline.
Lawrence’s career slowed down in the late 2010s when she appeared in several big-budget movies that failed to impress critics or audiences, such as X-Men: Apocalypse, Passengers, and Dark Phoenix.
After the disastrous performance of Dark Phoenix in 2019, Lawrence took a break from acting and did not return until 2021 with Netflix’s Don’t Look Up.
Lawrence has recently revealed the reasons for her hiatus, saying that she was unhappy with the quality of her movies and that she felt people were “tired” of her.
Lawrence has overcome many emotional challenges to make a successful comeback, as evidenced by her recent projects.
Her film Don’t Look Up was a hit on Netflix and earned four Oscar nods. She also received praise for her roles in Causeways and the comedy No Hard Feelings.
Despite missing out on Twilight and taking breaks from acting, Lawrence has maintained a remarkable career and is enjoying the fruits of her resurgence.
