Osamu Tezuka’s action-filled dark fantasy Dororo is well-known within the otaku community and even outside of it. The series has made a good name for itself with its peculiar characters and a plot that gets you hooked.
We thought there was nothing more one could do to make this story better than it already was, but we were proved wrong today.
Tezuka Production, Japanese distributor Media Do, and South Korean comic company Copin Communications launched a modern-day remake of Dororo.
It is a Japanese-South Korean vertical-scrolling webcomic titled ‘Dororo Re:Verse,’ inspired by the original manga.
The manhwa has only been released in Japan and South Korea for now on the Piccoma web manga service and the kakaopage platform, respectively. Its staff plans an international release soon in North America, China, and Europe after its serialization is completed in South Korea.
Till now, the franchise has launched the first 21 chapters in both countries, and more will be out soon. The art style and format are that of a typical Korean manhwa which makes it even more attractive and exciting to read.
As for the story, the plot is set in modern-day Japan instead of taking place in feudal Japan like the original. Yokai and criminals made deals in the shadows to control a new form of magic called ‘science.’
The main character, the immortal Hakki, is Hyakkimaru from the original manga, who still roams the land in search of his missing body parts. However, the twist comes in when he encounters a boy named Roro, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his former partner, Dororo.
There’s a huge possibility that Roro is Dororo’s successor or reincarnation because there’s no way the boy is still alive since the feudal era.
I know that all fans are super excited to know what it’s all about, but we’ll have to wait for the international release, which will take some time.
About Dororo
Dororo is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the manga artist Osamu Tezuka in the late 1960s. An anime television series based on the manga consists of 26 half-hour episodes that aired in 1969. A 24-episode second anime television series adaptation by MAPPA and Tezuka Productions aired from January to June 2019.
The plot revolves around a young girl named Dororo, who runs a business by helping poor people in the empire itself. She wanders the streets of a few stalls in search of money.
Hyakkimaru is a young boy who was born without any limbs or organs. He was born from a royal family but was snatched away from his mother because he had no limbs. Hyakkimaru accidentally stumbles upon Dororo who was being hit by a group of shop owners, that’s where it all started.
