In 1973, Sakyo Komatsu published a sci-fi dystopian novel titled “Japan Sinks.” An original net animation (ONA) adaptation of the novel was announced in October 2019.
The anime adaptation of Japan Sinks will be available exclusively on Netflix from 9th July 2020, worldwide.
The ONA will have a total of 10 episodes. It’s release schedule has not yet been announced.

Previously, the sci-fi novel was adapted into a movie in 1973, a TV show in 1975, a movie remake in 2006, and has also inspired a sequel novel. The novel received the 27th Mystery Writers of Japan Award and the Seiun Award for a Japanese novel-length work.

Japan Sinks is a disaster novel by Japanese writer Sakyo Komatsu, published in 1973. Komatsu took nine years to complete the work. The novel received the 27th Mystery Writers of Japan Award and the Seiun Award for a Japanese novel-length work.
The story revolves around a family of 4, the Muto Family, who are caught in an earthquake that hits Tokyo, and attempt to escape while everything starts to crumble around them.
