However, shortly after the Tokyo Olympics 2020, a major earthquake strikes Japan, and as people try to escape the city with their friends and family, the sinking Japanese archipelago complicates their escape.
Japan Sinks 2020 is a thriller science fiction destruction novel series by Sakyo Komatsu, which received an anime adaptation and was released as a Netflix Original on July 9, 2020.
The official Twitter account for Japan Sink 2020 announced on December 11, 2020, that the Blu-ray version of the web series would be released in Japan on March 26, 2021.
The Blu-ray BOX will contain the 10-episode series, Japan Sinks 2020, which won the No.1 domestic viewing ranking, updated daily on Netflix.
Along with the Blue-ray of the web series, the Theatrical Edition of the series, which was released in November, will be also be revived on Blu-ray.
The Blu-ray with cinematic edit of the ONA will releasing alongside series’ Blu-ray BOX, i.e., March 26, 2021.
After receiving mixed reviews, the director of the series, Masaaki Yuasa, reconstructed the ten episodes and gave the series a theatrical edition. The movie clearly depicts the theme of the work in a single sitting of a couple of hours.
Soon after the release of the series on Netflix, Mangamo, the mobile manga subscription service, released its first Original Manga, Japan Sinks 2020, based on the Netflix Original Anime, in July.
The Manga reimagines the anime through a different lens, which may spark the imaginations of people around the world.
About Japan Sinks 2020
Japan Sinks or Nihon Chinbotsu is a disaster novel written by Sakyo Komatsu; he worked upon it for a whole nine years.
There’s also a sequel to the story which was published in 2006, talk of a third one is currently ongoing. Kodansha published the novel.
Based on the novel, a film by Shiro Moritani was released in 1973 only. It was also adapted as a television show in 1975, a remake in 2006, and now an ONA (original net animation) in 2020 by Netflix.
