Japan, the host nation of the upcoming Olympics, is one of the worst-hit countries in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Businesses and industries have been affected in the worst possible manner, bringing down the economy.
The third state of emergency was set to end on May 11. But, the recent upsurge in the number of infections has worried the higher-ups a lot. The officials are looking to introduce stricter guidelines.
According to the Japanese authorities, a fourth state of emergency may be declared by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga pretty soon.
This state of emergency may last till the end of July. Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo prefectures will see an extension of their current emergency periods if the declaration happens.
This means, once again, the authorities have to decide on the Olympics. Readers must note that the mega event was initially scheduled to be held in 2020. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, it had been delayed.
The safety of the players, staff, and spectators is the primary concern of the organizing committee. And, if the situation persists, it is quite possible that the Olympics could be postponed again.
With the next state of emergency, the authorities will implement new guidelines. The entertainment industry will suffer a lot as people won’t be allowed in theatres, clubs, concerts, and other events.
This is a significant blow to the films like the live-action Kakegurui that were set to release after the end of the third state of emergency.
Even though businesses and livelihoods of millions of people will be affected again, the re-introduction of strict guidelines will help to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
We stand with Japan in these tough times and pray that the next state of emergency will be lifted soon!
