Next Star Wars Film Will Explore the Origins of the Force

James Mangold recently shared his sources of inspiration for his latest project, Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.

At Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Celebration event, three new movies were unveiled, one of which will take place further back in time than any other Star Wars film.

Mangold’s movie is set 25,000 years in the past and aims to delve into the beginnings of the first Jedi, their relationship with the Force, and potentially other related topics.

After the Lucasfilm Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration, Screen Rant had a chat with Mangold regarding Dawn of the Jedi. Mangold opened up about his inspiration behind choosing this particular Star Wars era for his movie.

Furthermore, he shared his approach to making films and emphasized the importance of having a central theme in every movie. Take a look at what Mangold had to say about Dawn of the Jedi below:

The idea of where it all started. To make a Star Wars Zero, if you will. “Where was the Force born?” To me a movie always has to have a question to answer. Some singular thing that you can say it’s about. Not just connecting plot of who built this when and who’s gonna defeat, but what’s it about? And to me this is about this discovery.

The three recent Star Wars films take place in different time periods. Dawn of the Jedi is set many centuries in the past, The Mandalorian is set during the New Republic, while A New Jedi Order takes place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker.

The franchise is exploring various eras with upcoming projects like Dawn of the Jedi, The Acolyte, and A New Jedi Order. Dawn of the Jedi could reveal secrets that alter the very foundation of Star Wars canon due to its focus on the earliest days of the Force and the Jedi.

Mangold’s interest in exploring this era offers the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Force and the fundamental principles founded by the Jedi.

Star Wars Timeline

The collaboration between Mangold and Lucasfilm on Star Wars will mark their second venture after Indiana Jones.

The central question of the Star Wars universe, “What is the origin of the Force?” has inspired many fans and has given birth to a barrage of fan theories and conjectures. Mangold’s past success in reimagining big franchise films gives us reason to believe that he will do justice to this age-old question.

Mangold’s upcoming movie has the potential to challenge the long-held beliefs of the Jedi and change how the Force operates.

Other movies like The Acolyte may delve into the darker side of the Force in a way that has never been explored before, while Dawn of the Jedi may approach the Force from a more spiritual and philosophical perspective.

Mangold can potentially reintroduce some concepts related to the Force initially planned for George Lucas’s sequel trilogy.
