GOTG Did Not Foreshadow Galactus’ Entry, But Will He Appear In GOTG3?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the end of the vision that director James Gunn had for the outlaw band of space-traveling misfits/superheroes.

So we know Gunn will probably go all out with this one. However, an important character from the comics still has had no mentions in the films, and fans are hoping for an appearance in the upcoming threequel.

The character in question is Galactus, one of the main antagonists often seen up against the Guardians and the Fantastic Four.

There was a particular scene in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy that was rumored to be an easter egg hinting at the birth of Galactus, giving fans hope about the villain’s future appearance in the MCU.

When a fan asked Gunn about this scene, the director clarified that it wouldn’t have been possible to include/mention the character when the first film came out due to legal reasons.

In a tweet, Gunn replied that as Marvel didn’t own Galactus in 2014 as the rights were with Fox at that time, his entry to the MCU wouldn’t have been possible then.

However, there’s still hope! Since Disney acquired Fox in 2019, the villain technically can appear in either GOTG3 or the upcoming Fantastic 4, with the possibility of the latter seeming stronger.

Will Poulter was recently announced to make his MCU debut as Adam Warlock in the third Guardians film. So, Galactic could make an appearance in a post or mid-credit scene, but I wouldn’t bet on him having much screen time. (Possibly to only set him up for Fantastic 4.)

As is the case with every Marvel project, the plot details are still scarce, but the film will take place after the events of Endgame and the upcoming Thor film and might focus on the other version of Gamora.

A few characters are rumored to bite the dust, and Dave Bautista has previously commented on it being the “end of the journey for Drax.”

With Karen Gillan mentioning how she and Pom Klementieff got emotional reading the script, it seems like it won’t be a memorable goodbye unless a character or two are sacrificed to reach Gunn’s “epic conclusion.”

After quite a few delays, filming began last month, and Gunn confirmed that even the soundtrack is ready. The film is set for a 2023 release, but before that, a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will debut on Disney+ in December 2022.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to release in cinemas on May 5, 2023.
