Jack Black Plans School of Rock Reunion for 20th Anniversary Celebration

Jack Black is planning to reunite the cast of School of Rock for its 20th anniversary. School of Rock premiered in 2003, and October 3 marks two decades since its debut.

The movie follows the story of Dewey Finn (played by Black), a guitarist who assumes the role of a substitute music teacher to earn some quick money.

However, he discovers his students’ musical talents and enters them in the Battle of the Bands competition. The film was highly acclaimed upon its release and is one of the most popular musical comedies ever.

Black recently shared that he’s organizing a 20th-anniversary reunion for the School of Rock cast in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The reunion is expected to be similar to the 10th-anniversary event in Austin, Texas, in 2013.

At the previous reunion, Black, director Richard Linklater, writer Mike White, and most of the original young cast members attended a film screening on a red carpet.

Black is eagerly anticipating the reunion and has shared his excitement in the interview. Read his comments below.

All those kids — dig this — they were ten years old when we made that movie, and now they’re all, like, 30. We’re gonna get together and have a 20-year anniversary. We like to jam. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the grownups from ‘The School of Rock.

It’s great to see Jack Black trying to commemorate the beloved movie ‘School of Rock’ and its talented cast, especially since the film never had a sequel.

While the reunions have been heartwarming, the movie’s legacy has also been kept alive through other means.

One of the most significant ways is through its adaptation into a rock musical that debuted on Broadway in 2015. Since then, the School of Rock musical has also been staged in the West End and embarked on tours across various regions.

Apart from the Broadway musical, Nickelodeon aired a TV show called School of Rock in 2016. Rather than directly continuing the original film, the series was a remake.

It offered a more detailed account of Finn (played by Tony Cavalero) motivating a bunch of music pupils, delving into their relationships and struggles, and exploring their growth as musicians.

The show was well-received and had a successful run of three seasons before ending in 2018.

Despite the School of Rock franchise exploring new ways to keep its legacy alive, some people are still optimistic about the possibility of a true sequel being created in the future.

Gossip surrounding a sequel initially surfaced in 2008, but in 2012, Jack Black revealed that the likelihood of it happening was slim.

Nevertheless, Jack Black is often asked about a sequel, and he recently joked about School of Rock 2 being in development.

Even if a sequel never materializes, School of Rock still continues to thrive in other forms and its legacy is here to stay.
