Honestly speaking, Dragon Ball Super was becoming a bit redundant and the Moro arc especially felt boring, to say the least.
Of course, I’m not talking about the conclusion of the Moro arc here because that was AWESOME. I had goosebumps when Goku killed Vegeta to activate his Mangekyou Sharingan and access Susanoo …just kidding.
In any case, I didn’t have many hopes from the current arc, but it’s going surprisingly well. Vegeta is finally getting the attention he deserves and by the God of Destruction Beerus no less.
Throughout the series, we’ve been continually amazed at the power and strength of the gods of destruction—especially Beerus, who is arguably the most powerful god in the 12 universes.
Each universe has its candidates that can become the next god of destruction. In-universe seven, that happens to be Goku and Vegeta.
From episode one of the series, the fanbase has been divided into two. One half believes that Goku will become the next god of destruction, while the others now believe that Vegeta has already become one.
So this begs the question, is Vegeta now a God of Destruction?
Vegeta is not a God of Destruction yet. He’s currently being trained by Beerus in the technique of Gods – something that would surpass Goku’s technique Angels, Ultra Instinct. Vegeta can now tap into a pseud-God of Destruction form for now.
Vegeta’s Path to Godhood (of Destruction)
In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 73, Granola gained the upper hand on Goku and knocked him out of battle. Then, Vegeta stepped into the battle, promising to defeat Granolah and wipe out all the Cerealians.
Chapter 74 showed us the first quarter of the fight and ended with Vegeta’s new transformation, which resembled a god.
At the start of Chapter 74, Vegeta goes Super Saiyan. He isn’t doing particularly badly but still can’t gain the upper hand on Granolah, who seems to be much stronger and faster than him.
Granola can land multiple hits on his vital points, but unlike Goku, Vegeta doesn’t go down. Here is where he unleashes his new transformation.
Goku looks upon the fight and notices Vegeta’s chi resembles that of a god from a distance.
While it may seem like Vegeta has become the next god of destruction, this isn’t the case. Vegeta isn’t a god of destruction.
He is using the God of Destruction transformation that Beerus had taught him. But, Vegeta hasn’t even scratched the surface of his new skill.
Who Could Become Universe 7’s Next God?
Well, if it isn’t Vegeta, who all could become Universe 7’s next god? There are only two primary candidates for the job, and one is more likely to become one than the other.
1. Goku
Goku is much stronger than Vegeta. He was able to achieve Ultra Instinct through a transformation. In the anime, Goku’s power was equal to or surpassed one of a god. Beerus deemed him to be possibly stronger than him.
While Goku may have the ability to become the next god, it’s implausible that he will. This is because Goku has a pure heart and forgiving nature.
Killing innocents comes with the job description of being a god.
To add to this, Goku also seeks power that is much more than one of a god. This is why he most likely won’t become the next God of Destruction.
2. Vegeta
Vegeta, however, can become the perfect god of destruction. He is, in a sense, the complete opposite of Goku when it comes to this.
His power and strength are nowhere near that of a god. But we have seen him improve. Especially with his new training, Vegeta can become much stronger and maybe even surpass Goku one day.
While his strength may not be up to the mark, everything else is.
Vegeta has the personality of a god. He wouldn’t hesitate to get the job done. It will also allow him to stop chasing after Goku and follow a new path, which is ultimately better for them.
Now that Vegeta is training with Beerus, the manga may be hinting at a future when Vegeta is the next god of destruction.
