The God of High School is one of the best fighting anime series one can every watch. The show talks about an all-styles martial arts tournament for students, and the winner can get ‘any wish’ granted.
The first half of the episode introduces us to the main trio characters – Jin Mori, Han Daewi, and Yoo Mira. The three come together in a valiant effort to stop the theft of an old lady’s purse. Through this scene, we are given an insight into their personalities which makes them instantly likable.
I. Plot
The main storyline is based on a Martial Arts tournament called “The God of High School”
It is an all-styles martial arts tournament held for high school students from all over Korea. The tournament’s winner will have all of their wishes will be granted.
The story begins with the protagonist Jin Mori running late to the Korg Arena where the city preliminaries for the tournament is taking place.We are also shown the equally vital characters Han Daewi and Yoo Mira make their way towards the arena.
The next scene shows an old lady’s purse being snatched. The three characters’ paths cross when they come together to stop the purse snatcher. Through their efforts to stop this injustice, we get to see their different personalities and also get a taste of their powers.
II. Characters
The protagonist Jin Mori is portrayed as a carefree 17-year-old martial artist from Seoul, South Korea. At the beginning of the episode, we see that Mori lives on his own after his grandfather leaves him at a young age due to unknown reasons.
The first time we see Han Daewi, he is working hard at his night shift in a grocery store.
Yoo Mira appears in the scene asking a couple of guys directions to Korg Arena for the tournament.
At this moment, Jin Mori, who is chasing a purse snatcher encounters Yoo Mira. They both work together to stop the crime. Jin shows incredible speed and Yoo Mira is seen wielding her “Moonlight sword”. They both are however unable to get to the purse snatcher in time. Han Daewi saves the day with a power-packed punch, stopping the criminal in his tracks.
We bear witness to the trio’s magnificent strength and powers during the tournament. The second half of the episode dives into the details of the tournament. The highly-anticipated tournament starts off with a Battle Royale.
Through this tournament, we see Jin’s lightning-fast reflexes. Han Daewi displays strong combat abilities as well. Even when her sword is taken away by an opponent, Yoo Mira proves that she is a great fighter through her powerful yet precise attacks.
III. Setting
The first episode of the show is focused on Seoul and mainly Korg Arena where The God of High School’s Seoul Preliminaries is being held. The necessary details that we need to know about the tournament are given to us effectively through the event’s host.
IV. Theme Songs
The opening song for the series: “Contradiction (feat. Tyler Carter)” by KSUKE is an upbeat and very edgy English song. The track alone is catchy enough to listen to on repeat. This captivating song paired with some amazing fight choreography sets the tone for the show.
“WIN” by CIX was chosen as the ending song for the anime. It is a traditional K-pop style song that brings out the “work hard play hard” essence of the show.
