Tales of the Walking Dead premiered on AMC in August as a six-episode anthological series in the TWD universe. To say it was an interesting watch would be an understatement, and the season finale surely did leave us wanting more.
With the show closing curtains on Season 1 in September, there is talk about whether or not it has been renewed for S2. So what’s the verdict?
Tales of the Walking Dead has not yet been renewed for S2. It is possible that the show may get renewed in the future, as it received favorable reviews and has plenty of stories left to adapt.
The anthological series performed well enough, opening up veteran fans and newcomers alike to a fresh side of the franchise. This is because the stories explored new, unseen characters and delved into different timelines, fetching far into the past as well as the future.
So, while six episodes was a good package, some viewers may long to watch more of this kind of Walking Dead format.
AMC has made no announcement about Tales of the Walking Dead’s renewal. Although this could be a one-off series, fans need not lose hope as the show may still be renewed in the future.
For one, it has received favorable critic reviews and has enjoyed good audience viewership. Having known names attached to it (like Terry Crews, Daniella Pineda, Olivia Munn, Danny Ramirez, and others) certainly was a crowd puller.
The tales are also quite independent from TWD’s main arc, which makes it all the more easily consumable for those simply interested in zombies or gore.
The second reassurance comes from showrunner Channing Powell who has stated in many interviews that there were about 25 stories created for the series, including a musical! So not only do they have ample stories left to bring to life, but it’s also great to see them approach storytelling in a fun way!
Plus, there shouldn’t be any budget issues attached to Tales of the Walking Dead, as the season cost was relatively lesser than any of the franchise’s other projects.
It certainly seems like the conditions for Tales of the Walking Dead returning with S2 are promising if the show wants to!
