Is Shang-Chi a Part of the Avengers?

Shang-Chi just hit the theatres and has already won the hearts of fans across the globe. The latest Marvel flick is a visual treat for lovers of the action genre. Everyone loved the characters in this new story, especially Simu Liu as the titular character Shang-Chi.

Shang-Chi’s induction into the MCU is quite exciting because there’s more variety to its roster of superheroes now, since it’s bringing magic and mysticism into a predominantly sci-fi-oriented universe.

The film’s post-credits scene left us all with questions about the origins of the Ten Rings, where they were sending out the signal to, etc. But most importantly, it’s this. Is Shang-Chi now a part of the Avengers?

Shang-Chi director confirms that the newest hero in the MCU is not part of the Avengers yet. Bruce Banner welcomes Shang-Chi and Katy to the “circus,” which clearly hints that the two will be working closely with him, Marvel, Wong, and perhaps even others in future films.

Seeing Bruce Banner and Captain Marvel in the post-credit scenes was a pleasant surprise for me. However, Banner did look a little worn out. Perhaps it was the Infinity Stones because he still had the sling on.

After Banner, Marvel and Wong discuss the signals emitted by the Ten Rings, Banner says, “Welcome to the circus!” Of course, fans were quick to speculate if he is the latest entrant into the Avengers, and honestly, even I thought about it for just a second and wasted no time before trying to find out.

Marvel put out a teaser showing a montage of Tony with the Iron Man armor, Captain America with his shield, and has a slate that says “Marvel’s New Avenger,” which clearly declares that Shang-Chi is now part of the Avengers.

But if you thought that was the end of it, just wait.

Shang-Chi Director on Why the Hero Isn’t an Avenger Yet.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton, in an interview with Vanity Fair, clarified all such speculation to say that Banner never uses the word “Avengers,” and that was purposeful on the writers’ part. On being asked about the Tribute teaser, he said that they did not see Shang-Chi as an Avenger, and even though they’d like to and might lead up to that point, right now, it’s not the case.

I guess this pretty much clarifies it all. However, one thing’s for sure. We’re going to see more of Shang-Chi, Katy, and Xu Xialing in future films, and I am here for it!
