Solo Leveling and Sakamoto Days are some of the most popular anime to air in the winter 2025 season. Solo Leveling broke the internet with its initial release last year, and its second installment has shown much more promise, and this shows as viewer ratings have also increased. Sakamoto Days, however, does not fall behind in this regard, as it is still one of the best anime to air this season.
Interestingly, Solo Leveling and Sakamoto Days have overlapping release schedules, which makes fans compare the two series and contemplate whether Sakamoto Days just looks pitiful when released right beside Solo Leveling. In this article, we will assess whether Sakamoto Days actually pales in comparison to Solo Leveling.
Solo Leveling Season 2 Has Incomparably Higher Viewer Ratings
Solo Leveling Season 2 has had six episodes released, and the anime has acquired an average IMDb rating of 9.0, with the latest episode having a rating of 9.8. This is only to be expected, considering the amazing fight put up by Jinwoo against Kargalkan in episode 6 of the anime.

Meanwhile, Sakamoto Days hasn’t had an IMDb rating above 9 ever since its release. It has an average rating of 7.8, with the highest rating so far being the first episode, having a meager 8. This really shows how much of an impact Solo Leveling has left on viewers in comparison to Sakamoto Days. Despite the latter having a really good manga and fanbase, the anime hasn’t managed to please viewers as much as it would’ve liked.
Why Sakamoto Days Is a Step Behind Solo Leveling
While one may think Solo Leveling is simply too popular and that Sakamoto Days is just simply being outshined by Solo Leveling’s brightness, this isn’t really true. Solo Leveling has definitely shaken the internet, and it has dropped mind-blowing episodes ever since its release. However, if compared to other popular anime like Re: Zero that are also airing in the current season, it is clear that Sakamoto Days is clearly lacking in some aspects. This is because Re: Zero season 3 also has some really high viewer ratings, which are comparable to those of Solo Leveling.

Most fans have the opinion that Sakamoto Days lacks a lot of action which could make the anime a lot more interesting. At this point, Sakamoto is just too overpowered, and everyone under his wing has adjusted to a life of peace. The fights they have in order to protect this peace are simply too less, which is one reason why fans aren’t really hyped. The anime will certainly not always be as peaceful as it is now, so it should be sufficient to say that Sakamoto Days has a slow-paced story progression that doesn’t keep fans as invested as Solo Leveling.
Solo Leveling Has Amazing Production Quality
It is blatantly obvious that A-1 Production has poured every bit of its resources into turning Solo Leveling into the masterpiece that it is. A simple look at episode 6 of the anime titled, which was titled “Don’t Look Down On My Guys” gives us a good idea about this. Jinwoo’s undead army was pitted against several high orcs, and Jinwoo himself took the boss of the high orcs, Kargalkan, out with a flamboyant display of strength and dominance.

The latest episode has had amazing animation and soundtracks, which have drastically boosted everyone’s opinion of the anime. Studio A-1 Production has worked so hard on the anime that fans have started thinking that it has animation on par with studios like MAPPA and Ufotable. Given the fact that Sakamoto Days currently doesn’t have much to offer, and since Solo Leveling has everything it currently needs to shine, it is safe to say that Sakamoto Days is certainly getting outshined by Solo Leveling.
