The ending of Chapter 158 sees Ruby getting stabbed as she opens the door. This is the same way Hoshino Ai was stabbed. The exact details of her survival are currently unknown.

Oshi no Ko, by Aka Akasaka, is heading toward the highly anticipated final arc – ‘Toward the Star and Dreams.’ Originally, the fans thought this would mean Hoshino Ruby would finally achieve her dream of surpassing and being better than her mother.

While we were expecting the hard work of both Aqua and Ruby to pay off, Chapter 158 had a sudden surprise in wait for us. We see Ruby doing the final phase of the B-Komachi tour in Miyazaki. Completing it with much fanfare.

The storyline in Oshi no Ko progresses towards Aqua and Kana’s emotional entanglement. However, as the panels shift focus toward Ruby, we see that she gets stabbed by the threshold just like Ai was many years ago.

Chapter 158 of Oshi no Ko starts with Akane paying a visit to Ruby and them discussing Kana as an idol. Akane believes that Kana will thrive as a star, while Ruby has her own thoughts that Akane might have found a new boyfriend to spend Christmas with.

All of this feels like an immaterial prelude as the panels shift their focus to Nino, the former member of the B-Komachi. Oshi no Ko Chapter 158, ‘Jewel,’  takes a very dark turn and triggers the trauma of the audience. Ruby’s idol career with B-Komachi takes off on the Christmas Day final performance in Miyazaki. Throughout the chapter, Ruby is dazzling on the stage, and we can see her shine as an idol.

Nino, meanwhile, is standing silently and watching her performance in the audience. Nino is someone with fanatic devotion towards Hoshino Ai. She believes that Ai’s death was what made her brilliance eternal and unsurpassable.

Seeing Ai’s daughter shine brighter than her on stage makes something within her snap. She’s filled with loathing and despair as she doesn’t understand how to react. The image of Ai, the goddess of her heart, the object of her devotion, slowly being shattered.

Nino makes a decision to “take care” of Ruby so that Ai will be the ‘best’ forever. Hikaru is the one she turns to, but unbeknownst to her, Hikaru regrets the past and believes that they should confess before the police and get a lesser punishment and forgiveness.

Nino takes it upon herself and sets off her plan. We can see the triumphant Ruby heading to answer the door, and as she opens the door, Nino stabs her in the abdomen, just like Ai was stabbed. The Chapter ends.

3. What will happen in Chapter 159 of Oshi no Ko?

Sarina and Goro

It is likely that Ruby won’t die in Oshi no Ko. This is because the story has shown us the dark nature of the idol world from the perspective of Ai, and, later on, Ruby, Kana, and the others. There is no purpose for which Ruby would be attacked- except for one.

Aqua, the reincarnation of Dr. Goro, has had regrets stacked up on him, causing him an enormous burden and changing his entire personality. Aqua was unable to protect Ai twice. He was helpless when she was stabbed as well.

The key point to remember is that Aqua was a doctor. He had medical training. His character as Aqua has not yet seen the sort of unification that we see with second-life characters. He has been unable to ‘utilize’ his medical expertise.

This time, although Ruby got stabbed for a different reason, it is an opportunity for Aqua to save her using his skills and let go of the regrets he has been carrying for decades. In a way he is saving Ai through Ruby.

This will also help fix the gap between Ruby’s past life as a patient (Sarina) and his as a doctor. Thus, although Chapter 158 has scared us silly, we can breathe easy very soon.
