Was Wednesday adopted by the Addams Family?

Netflix’s Wednesday, released on November 23, 2022, is already a smash hit and is breaking records every day. In less than a month of its release, it has become one of the five most-watched Netflix shows ever, with an estimated viewership of a whooping 150 million households already.

People who still haven’t watched the show or are planning to watch it might have various questions. Let’s jump to these questions and clarify them for the sake of the viewers.

Wednesday seems to be a darker take on the Addams Family. So, is Wednesday scary, and can kids watch it?

Is Wednesday rated R?

Season 1 of Netflix’s Wednesday has been officially rated as TV-14, due to mild violence, in the United States TV Parental Guidelines. This means that the content may be inappropriate for minors younger than 14 years of age.

Since Wednesday is classified as a comedy-mystery series, it is unlikely that the series will be scary, despite the presence of gothic and supernatural elements.

Wednesday is rated TV-14, which means it is recommended that only those who are 14 years old or older should be able to watch the series without parental guidance. So, if you are 14 or above and planning on watching Wednesday, binge it on Netflix and be prepared for a thrilling ride!

Although Addams family has always been a family-friendly franchise, those younger than 14 might not be able to enjoy Wednesday well enough because of its dark tonality. But even some pre-teens might enjoy the show as it does have a lighthearted and wholesome spirit, even though it deals with death and murder.

Is Netflix’s Wednesday worth watching?

Wednesday is a fun-filled mystery and a good one to watch with the family during the holidays. It’s a refreshing take on the Addams Family, supported by some amazing acting by Jenny Ortega and an engaging story.

Wednesday has received positive reviews from critics and viewers alike who have been left mesmerized by Jenna Ortega’s take on the titular character, along with a spectacular supporting cast. People have also been appreciative of the engaging story and Tim Burton’s dark take on the monster mystery.

For people who decide to stream or skip a show based on the critics’ reviews, Wednesday has received an average Tomatometer score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes and an average of three to four stars from most of the top critics.

A clever device that the show used to draw viewers in was a classic story of the week, so alongside the wider mystery, each episode brought a new Nevermore-centric conundrum for Wednesday to face.

Wednesday is a fun, silly, and sometimes gory introduction for budding young horror fans looking for a step up from Scooby-Doo. Elfman’s score is stunning, and the set design is just the right amount of over-the-top. Although putting friendship first might be difficult for Wednesday to master, her relationship with Enid is both believable and heartwarming (Make sure you don’t tell Wednesday that).

If you are into Stranger Things and Fate: The Winx Saga, Wednesday promises an engaging, thrilling ride worth investing your time in.

Was Wednesday adopted by the Addams Family?

Wednesday Addams is not adopted by the Addams Family in the Wednesday series, as we know that her psychic powers were inherited from both of her parents. Morticia Addams is a psychic, while Gomez Addams is the descendant of Goody Addams, a witch that Wednesday sees in visions.

The idea of Wednesday being adopted first popped up in the animated The Addams Family 2 movie, but it wasn’t talked about as much. Let’s dive into the further details for clarity.

The massive success of Netflix’s Wednesday rekindled people’s interest in the Addams Family, a fictional family of odd people who have been around since the 1930s. However, the Wednesday series focuses more on Wednesday Addams and explores the existence of the outcasts, who are quite different from the rest of society.

As we have all noticed, Wednesday is quite different from her family and the rest of the outcasts. She often has difficulties socializing with people and seemingly lacks empathy.

Her contrasting personality traits when compared to her family (except obviously Uncle Faster) and the other Nevermore Academy outcasts have often confused the fans. Some people speculate that she might be adopted and may not be a biological member of the Addams Family.

Why is Wednesday a part of the Addams Family?

The events of The Addams Family 2 and the series Wednesday confirm that Wednesday is the daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams, both in name and blood.

Wednesday was initially revealed to have psychic powers that allowed her to see bad things that happened or are about to happen to different people whenever she touches them. We saw her use this ability to solve the mystery of the Hyde monster responsible for killing people in Jericho and Nevermore Academy.

This was revealed to be a similarity she had with her mother, Morticia Addams, whom we know possessed a similar power that she manifested during her days in Nevermore. However, unlike Wednesday, Morticia could see the good things that have happened and are about to happen to other people.

But what really proves that Wednesday is indeed the biological daughter of Gomez and Morticia is the fact that she sees visions of a witch named Goody Addams, who existed centuries before her time. Goody Addams was one of the most important figures in the history of the Outcasts.

Goody resembled Wednesday and was a witch that fought against the different forces against the Outcasts, hundreds of years ago. Of course, it was Morticia who revealed that Goody was a distant ancestor of Gomez.

To clear all the confusion and to sum up, Wednesday is indeed a biological child of the Addams and is not adopted.
