Ever since Netflix’s Daredevil was canceled after three seasons, fans have been waiting for the character to return one way or another.
Well, screenwriter David Hayter gave us hopes of a Daredevil reboot at Marvel… only to take it back a few hours later.
When Hayter attended a panel at MCM London Comic Con, Small Screen asked him about which character he’d choose to work on at Marvel Studios. He replied,
You know, they’re doing a reboot of Daredevil, and Daredevil was always a very important character to me, and I loved the first way they did it.
But there’s certain things that I, you know that I want to adapt from the Frank Miller run on Daredevil that really meant a lot to me. Um, yeah, I mean, that’s really the one.
David Hayter
This was enough to give fans of the character some hope because it seemed like it was DEFINITELY happening, right? Turns out, it isn’t.
The X-Men writer took to Twitter to clarify that a reboot isn’t in the works at Marvel and said that he ‘mistakenly thought I’d read in the trades that it was happening.’
He added that he’d love to work on a project if it’d happen but that he had ‘no information whatsoever.’
Some fans made the long-running jokes about how Marvel boss Kevin Feige was probably waiting outside Hayter’s house with a sniper in case he ended up disclosing some top-secret information.
(Maybe he really was, who knows?)
There have been rumors about Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil in the MCU with Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Cox has denied these rumors, but if Hayden too is trying to backtrack on his words, it means the studios don’t want to reveal much beforehand.
Marvel has always tried to hide surprise entries like Harry Styles as Eros or Venom’s entry into the spider-verse. So, it is obvious that they would try to keep Daredevil’s appearance a secret as long as possible.
