Ms. Marvel episode 3 revealed Kamran’s identity. He was a new student at Kamala’s school and Kamala’s crush. However, at the end of episode 2, he is teased as someone else. So who really is Kamran in the MCU?
Kamran is a Djinn aka ClanDestine. A being from another dimension whose source of powers is Noor (Light). He, along with Najma and the other Djinns, is trying to return to his home.
At the end of Ms. Marvel episode 2, Kamran rescues Kamala from the DODC and also introduces her to his mother, Najma. She’s the same woman who appeared in Kamala’s vision while our teen superhero was saving a boy.
When Najma sees Kamala, she tells how she’s been waiting a long time to see her. At the beginning of episode 3, Najma tells the story of Aisha and how she was one of them. In 1942, when the British were still ruling over India, a group of Djinns was hunting for the bangles.
At the time, Aisha told how there were two bangles, but they had gotten their hands on only one. That is the bangle Kamala is wearing and even gains power from it. Najma suggests she could use this one bangle to help them return home.
However, there might be a catastrophe if they try. Najma is not ready to budge and is willing to do anything necessary. On the other hand, Kamran was not okay with this.
So when the so-called Djinns storm into Aamir’s wedding party, Kamran gets in the group’s way to help Kamala. We still don’t know if he will always stand by her side or return to the group, but for now, he’s in a dilemma.
Besides this, there’s the question of these Djinns. We still don’t know how much of Najma’s story is true, who these Djinns are and how they are connected to the larger MCU.
In the comics, Kamran is recruited by an Inhuman called Lineage who wants to purify the world by killing all non-Inhuman beings. Kamran himself has powers slightly similar to Kamala’s. He possesses biokinetic energy, which can shock people and even explode things. However, his energy color is not purple like that of Kamala’s, but blue-ish white.
Kamran’s storyline in the comics is somewhat grim. As part of Lineage’s team, he tries to bring Kamala to his side. However, when she refuses to do so, he becomes a villain. In the MCU show, we still don’t know if he has powers or is the villain.
In the flashback, we see a blue hand in the rubble. This blue hand could be that of a Djinn or the Kree. The Kree in the comics is a militaristic race from Planet Hala. In the MCU, they’re the ones who gave Carol Danvers her powers and even helped Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy.
They are blue-colored humanoids who created the Inhumans. So, perhaps the hand Aisha and Najma saw was that of a Kree, and all these Djinns could be Inhumans. By that logic, even Kamran could be an Inhuman.
All this is mere speculation. To really know the answers, we’ll have to wait for Ms. Marvel episode 4. Kamala, her mother, and perhaps the entire family will go to Karachi. There, they might find the answers they need.
