Production on Hocus Pocus 2 is progressing smoothly, as set photos show a village being built to transform Chase Farm, Lincoln, into 1670’s Salem, Massachusetts.
Filming on the sequel has begun and is expected to be shot at Chase Farm Park, with the story being set in Salem. The Providence Journal released the set pictures along with more details about the filming.
The state DEM sent air quality specialist Taylor Ryan to inspect the site for an open burning permit requested by the production company for burning down the set village.
The village consists of nine wood-frame buildings, with only the sides of the buildings seen on film being fully constructed.
In an email by DEM spokesman Michael J. Healey, The Providence Journal found out that Disney isn’t actually planning to burn it all down,
When Ryan arrived on site, she learned, “They are not actually lighting the structure on fire. They are using ‘fire beams’ fueled by natural gas so it looks like the building is on fire from the camera, but nothing will be burnt down.
This is better from our environmental perspective and also better for Disney, as they can do multiple takes of the scene.
The long-awaited sequel to the 1993 cult classic is bringing back the Sanderson Sisters 300 years later. Therefore, it might be a possibility that the scenes showing Salem in 1670 might just be flashbacks or cut-scenes that tell the tales of the witch sisters.
In December 2020, Disney confirmed the sequel was in the works for Disney+. Jen D’Angelo is writing the script, with Anne Fletcher directing the sequel.
The most exciting news for fans of the original film was that Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy were all returning as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary, respectively.
The official announcement also consisted of a log-line for the film that read,
Three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.
Although the film doesn’t have a release date yet, it only makes sense for Disney to probably release it in time for the spooky season, aka October 2022.
Hocus Pocus 2 is set to arrive on Disney+ sometime in Autumn 2022. Meanwhile, the first film is available for streaming on Disney+ if you desire to watch a witchy tale for this year’s Halloween.
