Grand Theft Auto V is still going strong after seven years and has seen releases on three console generations. Players have been coming back to GTA V again and again with every DLC.
Initially released in 2013, Grand Theft Auto has been released on PS3, PS4, and now will be releasing on the next-gen PS5. Rockstar has kept the content flowing all these years, with each downloadable content adding layers of freedom and mechanics to the gameplay.
Even though a single player has been in a dormant state, GTA Online has reached new heights with multiple DLCs and additions. The player base has certainly enjoyed these updates, given the statistics.
Grand Theft Auto V is the top 4th game by player statistics on Steam and has been in the top 5 spots on the leaderboard due to the constant DLC game updates. With the December 2020 update, the game is expected to go nowhere but further up.
Even with the statistics, GTA V is still an ageing title. Is the price tag worth it, and is the game nothing but dead for newcomers?
1. How Popular is GTA V in 2020?
According to Steam Charts, in 2020, GTA V has averaged around 100k active players at any given time. There was a surge due to the game being offered for free in the Epic Games Store but even without the influx of new players, the game was doing just fine.
Even though the stats focus mainly on steam’s player base and do not include player numbers from other platforms, the active count is still high for a game that has seen three generations of consoles.
The most important factor behind the active player count is the amount of content Rockstar has poured into Grand Theft Auto Online. As compared to the initial release, the game has increased the number of things to do almost ten-fold.
2. GTA Online: Ever Expanding Universe
Grand Thefts Auto’s Online Mode started with just online PvP and has evolved into a massive universe with unlimited choices and a whole criminal empire to run.
To put things into perspective, GTA:O has more than 30 unique adversary modes that span over both teams and free for all categories.
Things you can do in Grand Theft Auto Online:
- Be The CEO of a Criminal Empire
Being a securoserv CEO, you can run a criminal empire importing/ exporting top-end vehicles, supplying and selling crates filled with counterfeit items, rare collectibles. And this is without counting the VIP work missions you can do with associates you hire in-game. All this and you get your own CEO office too!
- Biker Gangs
One of the DLCs focused on introducing Motorcycle gangs, allowing them to start an MC with hired arms. The MC runs a cocaine lockup, meth lab, counterfeit cash factory, document forgery, and a weed farm.
- Gun Running Business
If running guns to anarchists and revolutionaries was your dream growing up, then GTA Online has got you covered as bunkers allow you to do the same thing. Bunkers in GTA V enable players to run weaponry research and production to sell to the highest bidder.
- Nightclubs
Now you can own and run nightclubs with the high-end life DLC in GTA Online. Nightclubs are fully customizable to the core and give the player access to production across all business fronts.
GTAO does not limit itself to the above business only as there are stunt races, air battles, Business battles, are among other things to enjoy.
3. So, Online Premium Edition is The Way to Go?
The GTA V: Online Premium Edition gives the player access to all the DLC content plus the Criminal Enterprise Pack that gets the players kickstarted in their online Journey but is it worth it.
The Criminal Enterprise Pack Contains:
- $1,000,000 GTA$
- Properties: Maze Bank West Executive Office, Paleto Forest Bunker, and more.
- Vehicles: Supercars, Motorcycles, the weaponized Dune FAV, and more.
- Weapons: Selection of guns to kickstart your story
- Player Customisation
All this sounds swell, but honestly, except the cash and the CEO office, all other bonuses are subpar at best, and you would be better off buying shark cards that give you GTA$ while you pay with real-life currency.
