Playstation is widely known for its exclusive games that feature interesting storylines and dynamic gameplay. For instance, the God of War series is a long-running franchise that has released several games exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
With God of War Ragnarok coming soon, you might want to catch up to the storyline by playing the previous game. Fortunately, you don’t have to own a PlayStation 4 anymore to be able to do so.
God of War (2018) is now available for PC players to play since January 14, 2022, meaning it’s no longer a Playstation exclusive game. However, other games from the God of War series are still exclusive to the console.
There are still various doubts among the community about the exclusivity of the God of War franchise. Therefore, in this article, we’ll go through everything you need to know about playing God of War on different platforms.
Will God of War ever be available on Xbox?
It’s highly unlikely that there will be a native release of God of War on the Xbox Series X or S consoles. However, players can play the action-adventure game on the console through a game streaming service called GeForce Now.
The Nvidia Geforce Now allows players to play games on their Steam library, which includes God of War. But, since it isn’t optimized for the Xbox consoles, you may find some issues while playing the game on your TV.
Sony hasn’t mentioned anything about releasing any God of War games on the Xbox console, and with God of Ragarnok coming soon, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. In other words, you can only play God of War (2018) on Xbox through Geforce Now.
Is God of War backwards compatible on the Playstation?
God of War (2018), released on the PS4, is backwards compatible. In other words, you can play the game on your PS5. This means that if you choose to buy the latest console, you won’t need to purchase God of War again to experience it on the PS5.
Sony has ensured that you can play their native PS4 on the PS5 without the need to buy new discs. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case with every PS4 game, so you usually have to check whether your game is backwards compatible or not.
On the other, the upcoming God of War: Ragnarok is also backwards compatible on the PS5 and allows to transfer save data from the PS4. It means you will have the luxury to play both GoW games on both consoles without making any additional costs.
Will God of War Ragnarok be a Playstation exclusive?
God of War Ragnarok will be released exclusively for the Playstation consoles. The game developers of Ragnarok have said in several interviews that there won’t be any port for PC or Xbox for at least a while.
In other words, to play God of War Ragnarok, you will need to own a Playstation console. There is a possibility that the game will eventually come to PC like God of War (2018), but it’s going to take a while.
Unfortunately, the chances of God of War Ragnarok coming to the Xbox Series X or S are slim. I estimate that the game will remain a Playstation exclusive for at least a couple of years. It’s because the developers have stated that they haven’t started working on the PC port in several interviews.
When will God of War Ragnarok get released on Playstation?
God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to release on 9th November 2022, on the PS4 and PS5. This game will be based a few years after the events that took place in God of War (2018).
The trailer for the much-awaited sequel was released recently, showing Kratos facing off against Norse Gods Freya and Thor. Playstation has also said that the game will only be on Playstation, and plans for any ports will only take place after the release.
About God of War(2018)
Developed by Santa Monica Studios, God of War is a single-player action-adventure game. Unlike the previous installments of the franchise that deals with Greek mythology, this installment is set in Norse lore.
Before dying, Kratos’ second wife’s last wish is for her to be cremated at the highest peak of the nine realms. Therefore, with his son, Atreus, Kratos embarks on a difficult journey teeming with monsters and gods to fulfill his wife’s final request.
