‘Fire Force’ became one of the fan favorites since its debut in 2019 and has run for two seasons as of now. The show has been immensely engaging for its post-apocalyptic plot combined with survival by ‘fighting fire with fire’.
With a strong fan response, you might have wondered when we would get a third season. The second season ended in December 2020 and the announcement for the third season was not made until May 2022.
Nothing apart from that has been disclosed. But we can still be sure about what to expect in the upcoming season.
The production staff has not revealed any further details regarding the staff or the release date of Fire Force Season 3. However, we are sure to receive more updates within this year. Because there has not been much news, the third season might arrive in the last quarter of 2023 or later.
The first season of ‘Fire Force’ covered 90 chapters (up to the first three chapters of Volume 11) and completed the Netherworld Arc. The next season covered up to chapter 174 (about two-thirds of Volume 20).
Because the manga ended in February 2022 with the 304th chapter, we are now left with 130 chapters (about 14 Volumes) which include ten story arcs.
The third season will get deeper into the mystery behind Shinra’s Adolla Link, what those ‘blue flames’ around his body mean, and the doppelgangers. On the other hand, the White-Clad and the Knights of the Ashen Flame are preparing for a decisive battle, which will likely be shown in the upcoming season.
Out of the remaining story arcs, the major ones that haven’t been covered include Obi’s Rescue Arc, Stone Pillar Arc, Asakusa Showdown Arc, Battle of Amaterasu Arc, and the Great Cataclysm Arc.
If we follow the same pattern of covering around 10 volumes in 24 episodes as in the previous seasons, we would still be left with 4 volumes. But it also means that the Great Cataclysm will begin.
Assuming the fight sequences would allow many chapters to get condensed into a few episodes, it is highly likely that this can be the final season of ‘Fire Force’. It is also possible that the season may have more than 24 episodes to avoid rushing the story.
Another less-likely possibility is that the third season will cover up to the Asakusa Showdown Arc or before the Battle of Amaterasu. While this would not cover the usual 10 volumes, it will allow room for a fourth and final season of shorter length.
‘Fire Force’ Season 3 was expected to arrive within this year, and it still is. We obviously cannot expect it to arrive in the next season, but the trailer might hit us all as a surprise anytime. With so much obscurity for almost a year, any further updates will be huge.
