Marvel’s next anticipated Disney+ series, Ironheart, will soon be set in motion. A production grid reveals that the show will start filming in late April 2022.
The information was logged into Production Weekly, a screengrab of the same being shared by a Twitter user. Another notable detail is that the filming location will be Chicago, as Riri Williams/Ironheart lives there in the comics.
Kevin Feige has been listed as the producer, while Snowpiercer’s Chinaka Hodge will serve as writer/producer. As of now, only Dominique Throne, who will be playing the titular role, has been listed under the cast. No directors have been named either.
The logline reads as Riri being an extremely gifted student at MIT who builds an incredible armor and brings humanity to the role of the superhero Ironheart.
In the comics, Riri first builds her armor from materials she finds on campus. Through a few ups and downs, she has her first fight with the bad guys, which gets Tony Stark’s attention. He then decides to endorse her projects.
Although Tony won’t be present in the MCU, the two characters can be connected on-screen via Civil War, where Tony announces a grant for all MIT student projects.
One big reveal fans are hoping/waiting for is Robert Downey Jr’s return as AI Tony in Ironheart.
Ironheart was first announced on Disney Investor Day 2020, but since Marvel has a lot on its plate, we won’t get the show until (late) 2023.
Besides, it has already been confirmed that Riri/Ironheart will be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. So, it only makes sense that the series will debut after the movie (November 11, 2022).
It will be interesting to see in what capacity Ironheart appears in the film — like Spider-Man in Civil War, will Marvel skip over her origin story and offer us a glimpse in her suit. Or, will she still be in her civilian persona?
In this vein, it is also expected that Ironheart will feature Pepper Potts, James Rhodes, and Happy Hogan, with perhaps a few faces from Black Panther popping in.
While we wait for more updates, have a look at the Ironheart series logo revealed on Disney+ Day 2021:
About Ironheart
Ironheart is an upcoming American television series created by Chinaka Hodge for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is intended to be the 11th television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise.
Hodge serves as head writer. The series is also produced by Proximity Media and 20th Television. Ironheart is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in late 2023, and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of Phase Five of the MCU.
Riri Williams is a 15-year-old engineering student and the daughter of the late Riri Williams Sr. A certified super-genius, she attends the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on scholarship. Working alone, Riri designs a suit of armor similar to the Iron Man Armor using material stolen from campus.
