Irma Vep Episode 5 Recap
Rene arrives late on set and gets upset when Robert tells him he and Mira made some minor changes to the scene and rehearsed it in his absence. He feels that the actors don’t understand the importance of the kidnapping scene and goes on to explain it to Mira.
Before the take, he insists that Gottfried be as “dangerous” as possible, as this was the controversial scene that almost got production shut down for the original series.
Gottfried gets “carried away” during filming and ends up hurting Mira. Despite this, the scene is not to Rene’s liking and he has the actors shoot fifteen more takes. After this, Mira temporarily disappears from the set and Regina finds her crying. She tells her about what happened with Eomann and Regina comforts her.
The next day, Robert and some other crew members have concerns about the kidnapping scene as they are uncomfortable with its non-consensual aspects and feel that it is a depiction of rape.
Rene has an outburst and claims this is censorship and Cara later tries to clarify everyone’s concerns to him by explaining that it was his choice to overstate the sexual element of the scene. After speaking to Mira, Rene decides to rewrite the scene.
