Ippon again! Episode 8: Release Date, Speculation, Discussion

The girls prepare for the Kinshuki tournament in episode 7 of Ippon Again!, titled “Secret Weapon Senpai”. Natsume prepares joint training with the girls from Kasumigaoka so that they can help each other out. She also tries to persuade Himeno, the upperclassman she wanted as the fifth member for Kinshuki, to rejoin the club.

Himeno denies Natsume’s offer in the beginning as she thinks back on her moments when she has t practice alone as the only member of the Judo club.

However, after hearing Amin talk so highly of Michi and seeing how passionate the girls are, she gives in and joins. They are overjoyed and practice fervently through the whole month.

Episode 8 Speculation

Episode 8 is titled “The Continuation of That Dream”. Kinshuki is finally here, and everyone has worked hard for it. Now that they have Himeno, Aoba West has a strong team. Since they couldn’t win their earlier inter-school competition, the girls are even more hyped up to win this tournament.

The girls will meet new opponents and friends at the tournament. Since they have worked so hard for it, their efforts are bound to bear fruit, and they will give their all to fulfil their dreams. The episode will show the start of their matches and is highly awaited!

Episode 7 Recap

Michi is excited when Natsume tells them that she will ask an upperclassman to join for their Kinshuki tournament. She tells them to focus on their practice and reveals that she arranged join training for them with Erika and the other girls from Kasumigaoka.

Practices are going well, and Michi badgers Seno to teach her techniques to her. They also talk to the two newcomers of the Kasumigaoka team, and Michi excitedly raves about their secret fifth member.

Natsume pays a visit to Himeno at the department store she works part-time at, and asks her to rejoin the club. Himeno remembers the time she had to quit the club since all her upperclassmen retired and tries to assure Natsume that she didn’t have that strong of an attachment to Judo.

She tells Natsume that they can use her name to register at Kinshuki, but she won’t compete herself.

While returning home, Himeno recalls when Natsume told her to rejoin the club after Michi, Sanae, and Towa joined and how the girls’ determination and hardwork inspired even Natsume.

It is shown that the one Himeno has been texting with is Amin, who told her about their joint training and how she decided to play the summer as well despite her high school’s last year.

Everyone at the club is practicing for Kinshuki. Natsume tries to tell them about the situation with Himeno, but at that moment, Himeno walks in herself, saying she just want to look around.

However, seeing the girls practice reminds her of her own times doing Judo. Amin also talked highly about Michi while they were on the phone, and seeing Michi in action, she gives in and rejoin for the tournament.

The girls throw a welcome party for Himeno, and they talk about her job and other things. She treats them to parfaits, and tells them that she was in the judo club at her middle school with Amin. Seeing the girls excited for Kinshuki gets Himeno pumped up as well.

The girls work hard at their practices throughout the whole month, and finally the opening ceremony of Kinshuki is just a day away.

Mou Ippon! is a manga series by Yu Muraoka that debuted in the Weekly Shonen Champion magazine in October 2018. It received an anime adaptation in January 2023.

The series begins by showing how Michi, Towa, and Sanae, three middle-school girls became friends due to their love of judo. While Michi wanted to leave the sports, the other two reminded her of the feeling of ippon. Together, they constitute the judo club in their school.
