Ippon again! Episode 3: Release Date, Speculation, Discussion

Michi and Sanae start their high-school Judo journey in episode 2 of Ippon Again!, titled “She Changes the Mood Entirely”. Towa struggles to talk to Michi and apologize for their match in middle school. Sanae is anxious about getting her parent’s permission to continue Judo, but eventually, her feelings get through to her dad.

Towa becomes friends with the girls after the fiasco at the school store and gains more confidence. They hand their applications in and the Judo club is once again reformed!

Episode 3 Speculation

Episode 3 is titled “She Changes the Mood Entirely”. The Judo club is officially reinstated. In the next episode, we will see who their advisor will be, and it will probably be the teacher who was observing them practice. They may also get more students interested in the club.

During one of their matches, it looks like Towa may run into her earlier middle school Judo mates. Due to her nature and how good she is at the sport, she might also have some enemies who are jealous of her.

Despite everything, their friendship will increase as they practice together. Michi will help Towa get more courage while she will help her and Sanae in their Judo techniques.

Episode 2 Recap

Sanae is anxious about getting her parents’ signature on her club application since she promised them that she would leave Judo in high school. Her father tries to ask what’s wrong, but she is not able to be truthful.

Michi gets her application and is surprised when she hears that Sanae forgot hers, a lie she told Michi. Nagumo tries to get Michi to join Kendo again. Towa once again tries to talk to them but runs away before saying much. Nagumo gets Michi and Sanae to remove the tatami from their club, as the practice hall belongs to the kendo club as of then officially.

While carrying the mats, Michi and Sanae reminisce about their various Judo matches and victories in the past. They get too carried away and start battling on the tatami right outside, in the school. Michi reminds Sanae of the first match she won after her fracture. Sanae gets overwhelmed and says that she doesn’t want to let go yet, holding Michi tight.

At the school store, Towa cannot buy anything for lunch as a hoard of students fight to get their desired food. The lady at the counter gives her a bun and tells her to have more courage. As Towa is going back, she sees Michi, Sanae, and Nagumo, arriving at the store, also unable to buy anything. Towa goes and gives her bun to Michi.

At the rooftop, while they are eating, Towa wears her Judogi and finally apologizes for making Michi unconscious in their past match. Michi tells her that it’s all right but she is adamant about apologizing since she was the reason her funny face was spread on the internet. She tells them that she came to Aoba West because she wanted to apologize and do Judo together with them.

Michi laughs and tells her it’s fine and promises to treat her to a chocolate coronet next time. Towa gathers her courage and tells her that she doesn’t want a treat and would instead like them to help her at the school store during lunch and practice together after school.

They happily agree, and Sanae also gains the courage to talk to her parents. Her mother is a little apprehensive, but her father agrees and tells her to pay attention to her studies as well.

The next day, the three girls wear their Judogi, and Nagumo wears her Kendo uniform and goes to the school store. This time they are able to procure their desired snacks. After lunch, they turn in their application, and the Judo club is once again reformed.

While arguing over which word fits the new Judo club, Michi and Sane do some Judo practice. They are shocked to hear that Towa went all the way to nationals in middle school. Michi is determined to practice more and get better, and they all battle together.

Someone who seems to be a teacher observes the three girls while they practice from far away.

Mou Ippon! is a manga series by Yu Muraoka that debuted in the Weekly Shonen Champion magazine in October 2018. It received an anime adaptation in January 2023.

The series begins by showing how Michi, Towa, and Sanae, three middle-school girls became friends due to their love of judo. While Michi wanted to leave the sports, the other two reminded her of the feeling of ippon. Together, they constitute the judo club in their school.
