Episode 1 Recap
Michi Sonoda and Sanae Takigawa get ready for their last middle school Judo match, while Sanae chides Michi for getting them late by oversleeping.

Sanae loses in the match, and Michi promises her that she will win the match by an ippon since it will be her last Judo match ever. Michi’s opponent, a black-haired girl from Kawakita School, is fast and strong, but Michi holds her ground. Her hand accidentally comes in contact with Michi’s nose and starts bleeding. The match is held for a few minutes to give her first aid.
Michi assures them she is fine, and they restart their match. Michi’s flexibility helps her to hold her ground. She slams the girl on the ground, and Sanae shouts in excitement that it’s an ippon, but the referee shouts waza-ari.
Sanae panics for getting too excited and shouting the wrong thing. At that time, her opponent gets Michi in a chokehold. Michi refuses to give in and passes out, so the referee has to announce an ippon against her.

Later in the locker room, Michi agonizes over her dumb mistake, and Sanae apologizes. To her surprise, Michi finds that her match was recorded and posted on social media, and she gets angry over whoever published her shameful display on the net. Sanae tells her that she shouldn’t have forced herself, but Michi says that she wanted to win her last match by an ippon.
As they leave, Michi’s earlier opponent starts following her, wanting to tell her something but misses the chance. The duo meets with Nagumo, another friend from the Kendo club, and they go to eat something.
Nine months later, they are finally in Aoba West High School, and Michi cheerfully tells Sanae how happy she is that they don’t have to do their grueling practice and how she will soon have a boyfriend.
While they are going home, Nagumo stops them and forces Michi to join the Kendo club due to her amazing flexibility. They tried to ignore her, but she takes them to the Martial Arts Hall.

They hear commotion from inside and see the Kendo Club trying to take the tatami mats from a girl. To their surprise, it turned out to be Michi’s last Judo match opponent.
One of the Kendo club members asks them to convince the girl to let go of the tatami since the Judo club will be shut down due to a lack of members, and the hall, which both of the clubs used before, will be under the Kendo club now.
The girl, Towa Hiura, pleads with Michi and Sanae to join, as they need three members to keep the club active. Nagumo and Towa fight over Michi because each wants her to be part of their club. Sanae makes them slip, and Towa instinctively tries to slam Michi, but Michi turns her upside down, doing the ippon instead. Everyone cheers.

Remembering how fun they found the sport, Sanae asks Michi to join again together and promises that they will make practices easier this time. Michi thinks about it, agrees, and proclaims that she will score a lot of ippons.
