CBS All Access has pulled the plug on Interrogation after one season- it will not return for a second season. The crime drama series was an experimental endeavor by Anders Weidemann and John Mankiewicz- A Choose Your Own Adventure series for CBS’ streaming service. It premiered on February 6th, 2020 and is based on a true story about a thirty-year-long criminal investigation.
Interrogation revolved around Eric Fisher, a young man who was accused and convicted of brutally killing his mother. Every episode focused on the questioning of crucial suspects and leads of the case, which was taken directly from the police files. The viewers could watch the episodes in any particular order they pleased. The resolving season finale would be released at a later date.
Choose Your Own Adventures are always tricky and Interrogation stumbles at implementing the technique. Although the series allows viewers to choose their own watch order, watching the episodes non-serially affects the show’s quality. This, coupled with a loose season finale, made Interrogation an entertaining but slightly unsure show.
Since the first season was based on an unsolved true crime story, the second season needed a similar story to satisfy the Choose Your Own Adventure format. It is possible that the production team did not find another story to suit the format.
It is also possible that the COVID-19 pandemic was the reason behind Interrogation’s cancelation. All networks have been extremely strict in renewing its shows and, as a result, many fan-favorites and new shows are being canceled. CBS All Access itself has canceled Tell Me A Story, One Dollar and Strange Angel.
Interrogation will be available to stream on CBS All Access. The series stars Peter Sarsgaard, Kyle Gallner, David Strathairn, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
