Intel’s New Core i9-14900KS breaks the 6.0 GHz barrier for enthusiast CPUs

Summary:

  • Reputed Hardware leakers have spotted backorders on a Canadian Hardware dealer’s website.
  • The backorder mentions Core i9-14900KS that has been spotted in a warehouse in Vietnam as well.
  • The processor is for enthusiasts with deep pockets and those who require superior performance.

Intel’s next-gen lineup seems to break several barriers, including the fabled 6GHz boost clock frequency. The new discovery corroborates with benchmarks of the 14900KS CPU by Intel that were seen back in February.

The Core i9-14900KS had been spotted earlier at a Canadian Retailer and in the OCCT Benchmark database. According to @I_Leak_VN, the processor is already in Vietnamese warehouses waiting to be sold. This was corroborated by another Canadian dealer called DirectDial, who has listed the CPU on backorder on their website.

The Core i9-14900KS, bearing SKU number BXB071514900KS, is a special Raptor Lake Refresh die edition. This features eight high-performance P Raptor Cove cores and 16 energy-efficient E Gracemont Cores. It will require at least a Z790 motherboard.

It boasts a mammoth 68 MB of cache. The boost frequency is the primary feature that separates it from the top-of-the-line 14900K. The 14900K reaches a maximum of 6 GHz, while the 14900KS boasts a whopping 6.2 GHz.

This clearly shows that the performance is achieved by selecting the best silicon currently available to Intel. However, the packaging does not reflect as much, given Intel usually deals Rare Pieces in black packaging.

The pricing, as expected, is nothing like the packaging. It stands at a hefty USD 765 in Vietnam, where it was first spotted. In Canada, it is 1004 CAD, which is approximately USD 740.

To put it into perspective, Amazon’s cheapest 14900K is currently at USD 545. This makes it 30% more expensive. It will also consume 25W more power than the 14900K, taking the TDP to 150W.

With the pricing places it in the enthusiast segment, the pairing with an RTX 4090 promises to pack quite a punch, which will be a spectacle to behold.
