Intel is working on Meteor Lake CPUs already, and considering these 14th-Gen processors are going to have some significant improvement, Intel is adding some high-end support. That means even the integrated GPU will see some upgrades.
This time, iGPU will be based on Xe-LPG graphics, a derivate from Xe-HPG. Although some changes to the architecture exist, such as the GPU configuration differs from the DG2/Alchemist series using full-fledge Xe-HPG architecture.
The latest patches of Intel Graphics Compiler suggest that Intel’s 14th-gen Meteor Lake’s iGUs might support ray tracing acceleration.
The news came from coelacanth, where they spotted a function returning ray tracing support checks if the architecture is a derivate of the DG2 (Alchemist) series, which Meteor Lake is rumored to be. If this is indeed true, then Meteor Lake iGPUs should support ray tracing as well.
Intel’s chief competitor, AMD, already implemented this two generations ago, with its Ryzen 6000 CPUs earlier this year, based on the RDNA2 architecture. They were the first to adopt Ray Tracing into iGPUs, and now Intel is looking to follow suit, adding the same capability to its 14th Gen Meteor Lake processors.
The Gen12 Xe graphics architecture, which was introduced with the 11th Gen Tiger Lake lineup, will be replaced by a modified implementation of Xe-HPG. The latter is what powers the 1st Gen Arc Alchemist discrete GPU family.
However, how ray tracing will be implemented on Meteor Lake differs from the Alchemist series. It’s believed that the Meteor Lake GPUs will feature vector engines/Xe-Cores different from Alchemist.
Intel’s 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs will use Xe – HPG architecture and enable additional support for DirectX12 Ultimate and XeSS. An all-new tGPU(Tiled GPU) will be introduced, which promises efficient performance. The CPUs are expected to launch in the first half of 2023.
