Intel Is on a Roll, Confirms New GPU For Its Arc Range After Alchemist

Intel announced a few months ago that they, too, would be entering the GPU market. This announcement got a lot of PC enthusiasts curious, and many have been keeping their ears to the ground ever since. We know that the first GPU in Intel’s Arc range, dubbed Alchemist, will be launching sometime next year, but the company has gone ahead and confirmed another SKU coming in this range.

Intel’s Arc range is looking to take on the big dogs in the market: NVIDIA and AMD. Going by specs alone, the Alchemist GPU looks like it could go toe-to-toe with some of the competition’s best offerings. The newly confirmed SKU will not be targeting this market, instead going for the mid-range to high-end cards segment.

This information comes from a recent report stating that Intel has confirmed that a DG2 Arc product with 448 Executable Units exists. There are also mentions of it in a screenshot taken from Mesa, an open-source software application for OpenGL and Vulkan graphics. A separate report states that this would be the fourth SKU that will be in this range of GPUs and, given the EU, it would likely sit halfway between the DG2-384 and DG2-512 variants, placing the 448 configuration in the middle of the mid-range and high-end versions, if we are to go off the number of cores calculated.

The VRAM will also likely be somewhere in the range of 8GB to 12GB. Based on these figures alone, the DG2-448 could be comparable to the RTX 3060 with 12GB of RAM and 3584 cores, similar to the Intel version. It has been noted recently that Arc cards may be closer in terms of overall power to the RTX 3070, and some believe it may even push into the RTX 3070 Ti range.

Whether or not it will be able to take on some of NVIDIA’s and AMD’s heavy hitters remains to be seen, but the revealed specs of the Alchemist show that it could have the potential to be at the level of what’s top of the market right now.
