Intel is planning to release its Arc GPUs by the end of this year. But what’s surprising is that it never officially confirmed its SKU lineup. Hence, no wonder rumors about some SKUs started arising in the community, including talks about the top-end A780.
Intel’s Graphics Marketing team member, Ryan Shrout, tweeted that there was never a plan for A780, and it was all just a rumor.
A780 was supposedly a full-fat ACM-G10 GPU acting as the fastest alchemist Graphics card, however, now it doesn’t seem so. Furthermore, with A770/A750 being officially teased as RTX 3060 series competitors, chances of Arc desktop reaching RTX 3070 performance are very low at this point.
Intel Arc Tech Evangelist Tuan Huynh also replied that their team was never even mentioned about an A780 in the last one and a half years.
Popular leaker, Moore’s Law is Dead doubts the truth in these statements. The leaker suggests that Arc A780 might have been more than just a rumor and would’ve existed at some point. But Intel would have to scratch the idea as they would fail to reach RTX 3070 performance levels.
Recently, we have seen Intel level up its marketing game to get news about their Arc cards out there. Tom Peterson and Ryan Shrout went on GamersNexus to showcase the A750 for the first time.
Performance reviews of A750 also arrived recently when Ryan Shrout showcased its performance against RTX 3060.
Now, with the A780 out of the picture and still no news about another rumored SKU, the A350, we are just down to 5 SKUs. Intel’s Arc series will feature A770, A750, A550, A380, and the recently spotted A310.
The problem with this lineup is that even though there are good low-end SKUs, Intel will struggle to compete at the higher end of the spectrum. If A770 is, in fact, the fastest SKU Intel has to offer, A770 would match RTX 3070’s levels at best which is disappointing.
Also, with NVIDIA and AMD releasing their next-gen GPUs around the same time, Intel is one generation or two years behind its competition, giving Intel Arc a very tough welcome to the discrete GPU market.
The added activity in marketing suggests that Intel is very close to launching these GPUs, and we could see the Arc series in action in the next few months.
