Intel is going to enter the graphics card market this year with its Arc Alchemist lineup, and Intel is really serious about selling them. Meanwhile, NVIDIA is preparing to release its RTX 40-series and AMD is launching RDNA 3 cards by the end of 2022.
Unfortunately, Intel seems to be one step behind as it will still compete with the current generation of graphics cards when it launches while the next-gen GPUs will be available in the market.
According to Tom’s Hardware, Intel has claimed that its Mobile Arc GPUs will outshine RTX’s current-gen hardware. Intel has claimed that the A730M and A770M outperform the likes of the Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti Mobile and RTX 3060 Mobile, respectively.
The latest benchmark tests indicate that Intel’s GPUs are up to 12% faster than the RTX mobile hardware. However, as the report says, this increase could be down to the other specifications that Intel used. For example, the tests used the latest Core i7 12700H and had 16 GB of DDR5 memory, which could have tipped the results in its favour.
The laptop configurations used for the tests are
- Intel Arc A730M (TGP 80 to 120W): Core i7-12700H, 16GB of DDR5-4800
- Intel Arc A770M (TGP 120 to 150W): Core i9-12900HK, 16GB of DDR5-4800
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti (TGP 60W) (ROG Zephyrus M16): Core i7-11800H, 16GB of DDR4-3200
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (TGP 85W) (MSI Pulse GL66): Core i9-12900HK, DDR5-4800
Although A730M and A770M are in fact good GPUs, they are definitely not as good as we first thought. Some sources suggest they might be better, but overall they will be on par with the likes of the RTX 3070, maybe even the 3070 Ti, in terms of desktop variants. You can check out the full test results here.
Intel recently launched its Arc GPUs in China, but it’s expected to release them by Q4 2022 in the rest of the world. This might be the case as the software part of the GPUs is not fully ready.
With NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 looking like it will live up to its expectations, team blue will have a tough time releasing its GPUs along with team green.
