Intel Arc A7 GPUs Performance Declines Without ReBAR Support

Intel’s Arc A7 GPUs were recently tested in modern and older games. The cards received an almost perfect review with just a few cons. Given their set MSRP, the A770 and A750 delivered a great performance. However, the GPUs were launched way later than expected. On top of the delay, the drivers are finicky and demand more power than other graphics cards.

TechPowerUP also tested the Intel A770 and A750 GPUs with systems that are not officially supported, i.e., with an older PCIe Gen3 software and without Intel’s suggested ResizableBAR.

This led to the discovery that the performance of Arc A7 GPUs drops by a quarter or 76-80% without ReBAR. Hence, support for ReBAR is an absolute necessity for Intel Arc A7 GPUs to function efficiently.

However, this does not mean Arc A7 GPUs cannot be used without it at all. PCIe Gen4 support is not as important as the lack of ReBAR, as the PCIe Gen3 standard only affected the figures by 0-2% variance.

The conclusion is that systems that have ReBAR support but lack the latest PCIe Gen4 technology can be paired with Arc A7 GPUs without a significant loss in performance delivery.

This includes Intel 10th Gen Core series or AMD Ryzen 5000G GPUs. Even the systems with unofficial ReBAR support can also work with Arc A7 GPUs.

Intel Arc A770 and A750 GPUs are scheduled to launch on October 12th.
