Inside Out 2 updates have been trickling out ever since Pixar announced the release date and some early plot details.
After an uncharacteristically long drought of two years, Pixar released Inside Out in 2015. The movie was unique as it personified the emotions of a tiny little girl, Riley and told the story through their eyes.
Fear, Anger, Disgust, Sadness, and Joy exemplify Riley’s emotional states and guide her as she grows up.
Inside Out’s plot banks on Pixar’s tried-and-tested formula of not having a separate villain in the film. Joy is both the hero and the villain as she embarks on a cathartic journey to learn that suppressing ‘bad’ emotions is unhealthy.
Inside Out was globally appreciated and scored 98% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Best Screenplay Nomination and a Best Animated Film win at the 88th Academy Awards.

A new trailer has just dropped for Inside Out 2, highlighting key information and new additions for the Pixar sequel.
Firstly, new emotions are added like Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment. Significant recastings were also announced after the exit of Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling, who played Fear and Disgust, respectively.
1. Inside Out 2 Release Date
At Disney’s D23 Expo 2022, the release dates of several films were announced, including Inside Out 2.
The release date for Inside Out 2 was announced to be June 14, 2024, almost nine years after its predecessor.
2. Inside Out 2 Cast
Amy Poehler will surely return for the sequel as Joy, along with Lewis Black (Anger) and Diane Lane as Riley’s mom.
The movie’s IMDb page lists Phyllis Smith (Sadness) as a cast member.
Additionally, Maya Hawke will debut her role in the Inside Out franchise as a new emotion, Anxiety.
Due to contractual problems, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader will not be returning, and their roles will be assumed by Liza Lapira and Tony Hale, respectively.
3. Inside Out 2 Plot Details
Although the trailer didn’t reveal much about the main plot, we can still predict some nuances.
Inside Out 2 will likely revolve around Riley as a teenager as she explores new emotional states and struggles to cope with the hormonal rollercoaster, as we all have at some point. Therefore, the chemistry between various emotions will be even more entertaining to watch this time!
Pixar CCO further revealed that there will be a total of 27 emotions in the upcoming sequel. Therefore, Riley will have to deal with the complex broth of hormones and feelings that come in tandem with teenagers.
4. Inside Out 2 Trailer
Inside Out 2’s trailer dropped on November 9, 2023. Although it was only a snippet, it said a lot about the changes and additions in the film.
After introducing the old emotions, we saw a barrage of new ones that have taken centre stage in Riley’s teenage years.
The trailer also introduced Maya Hawke as Anxiety and added brief dialogues from the recast roles of Disgust and Fear.

Inside Out 2 is an upcoming American animated coming-of-age film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The sequel to Inside Out (2015), it is being directed by Kelsey Mann (in his feature directorial debut), produced by Mark Nielsen, and written by Meg LeFauve.
The film stars the voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black reprising their roles, with Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, and Maya Hawke joining the cast.
