The days of the impending doom of Sheldon’s father, George, will continue being developed in the ongoing Season 5 of the show.
Young Sheldon creator Steve Molaro revealed in an interview to TVLine that they will continue “evolving” the storyline of George’s infidelity. He even called the particular story a “soap opera.”
Series co-creator Steve Molaro confirms that it’s an “evolving storyline” that will be revisited in the final stretch of Season 5. “It’s a bit of a soap opera that we enjoy telling,” he admits, “and it will continue as we move forward.”
The original source, The Big Bang Theory, showed how adult Sheldon and his mom, Mary, continued to live with the consequences of George’s extramarital affair and how traumatic it was for the genius.
Young Sheldon serves as the prequel, and the Season 5 Sheldon finally is 13 years old—the same age the adult Sheldon revealed he caught his father cheating.
The story of George’s attraction to neighbor Brenda has already started, with the audience finally knowing how it advanced. From denying the inevitable fate to walking on eggshells around Meemaw, aka Connie (Mary’s mother), to finally meeting in secret—viewers have seen the gradual progression.
However, George is not the only one on the road to infidelity. Mary, Sheldon’s mother, was recently shown to have fantasized about being intimate with the youth pastor, Rob. With the future already decided, we know that it will only be George who crosses the line.
Recent Young Sheldon episodes showcased cracks between George and Mary’s relationship.
In a relatively crowded household, the kids, Georgie, Sheldon and Missy, won’t be shielded from them anymore, shared Molaro. The comment hints at the inevitable moment when Sheldon would catch his father cheating on his mother.
The next episode, the 18th one, titled Babies, Lies, and a Resplendent Cannoli, will air on April 14.
