Mernes’ quest to becoming a good communicator leads him to uncover one of the biggest secrets that Leo had been hiding from us all along, the fact that Mernes WAS quite the mediator, oh, and also that he was a super soldier, synthesized thousands of years ago to protect humanity.
From a mere mock interview session to a deep conversation that brings either of the parties to peace with their demons. This episode hit rather hard for a show that was goofing around until just one episode ago.
I’m Quitting Heroing is definitely taking a slightly darker turn with the events of late which is quite the switch from the pace we are used to. As sudden as the change may be, I find this to be a rather welcome change.
Episode 7 Speculations
Episode 6 dropped one hell of a bombshell on us with the revelation of Leo’s backstory. What was simply portrayed as a cocky hero turned out to be an overpowered relic of the past with demons of his own.
The episode seemingly completes his story in conjunction with Mernes’ but I have a feeling that there might be things that will come to light in the next episode where Leo will tackle the problems of the now suicidal Edvard.
The previous episode left us with more questions than answers and now that we are certain that the next episode will be Edvard’s dive into his past, it is highly probable that Leo will join him in the plunge revealing something even more surprising and possibly answer some of the questions he set up in the first place.

Episode 6 Recap
Mernes begins his interview with a question that Leo was not quite prepared for, what were his true intentions behind joining the demon army and why did he lie in the first place?
Mernes put himself in Leo’s shoes and realized that he could have eradicated humanity himself if he so wished but he never did, instead, he joined up with the demon army under that specific pretense. His little hypothesis saw right through Leo and left him stunned as he never expected this question from the shy Mernes.
Leo tries to dodge the question but Mernes pushes him to continue by relating his own story.
A trained assassin from a young age, Mernes was not exactly born into the profession. The half-human half-demon child was sold into slavery by his terrified parents when he was little, poisoning his mind with hatred against all humanity itself.
From there he was picked up by the Assassin’s Guild who sent him off on a mission as an expendable resource but his skills and hatred saw him through to the end until he joined up with the Demon’s army led by Echidna.
He saw this as an opportunity to erase all human life but Echidna’s conquest was never about that. He believed that he would kill Echidna if he needed to and lead the army to humanity’s destruction but he couldn’t bring himself to do it, eventually becoming one of the four generals.
He then reminds Leo that his plans were brought to an early end because he had shown up and halted the whole campaign.
After defeating Mernes, Leo advised him to go see the world on his own terms and realize just how “cool” it is. To seek out something he’d never seen before.
He reminds Leo of that moment and says that his claims of wanting to destroy humanity were bogus as somebody who talked of the world like that could never wish for something so destructive.
It is then that Leo begins to open up. He begins to tell his story out of pure instinct as he never planned to do it, but he does nonetheless.
Before the world that we see existed a far more technologically advanced world. The capital city where they were sitting was called Tokyo back then.
One fateful day a hole appeared from nowhere bringing demons along with it that ravaged all of humanity. All the nations of the time came together to create the Demonhart soldiers, humanity’s answer to the demons, their objective, was to save the world.
That is exactly what they did until one by one all of them fell in battle with only Leo remaining.
As humanity evolved to an age of magic he was there to fight whenever humanity needed him but now that his strength knew no bounds, humanity has shunned him, freeing him from his binding mission.
He was happy that he was exiled as now he could do things as he pleased. His mission was technically over now and he was happy about it all, a realization he came to only after he was able to share his story with someone willing to listen.
The episode was one hefty landslide of exposition after another, revealing secrets that we could never have guessed, Mernes turned out a better conversationalist than expected, and Leo was more mysterious than presumed.
